• These salty tears fall from my cheeks as I crawl up in a ball. How could this happen? It all happened so fast, too fast for anyone to stop it. Too fast for me to come to your rescue, to pull you from deaths grasp. I know I never could have saved you in time. You were already gone by the time this news reached my ears. The shock of it all brought me here, huddled against a tree. Away from my family, the sorrow filled looks and the memories your family brought. Blocking out the world and all of its pain. My breathing slows and comes to a calm rhythm, when I hear something quietly hit the ground next to me. The sound repeats itself only getting louder, and the air changes. The smell I love the most fills my lungs. Rain. I feel my lips pull upward slowly, without my permission. I uncurl myself, getting to my feet. Numb, I feel myself taking steps forward, out from beneath the tree and into the open air. A weird sound erupts from my throat and my head lifts up toward the sky. I’m laughing, isn’t that weird? My emotions changing so fast, one after another. It’s exhilarating. I’m at the top of a hill now, overlooking the green field, and I stop. My teeth chatter and I hold my arms out. I spin slowly letting the small drops fall against my skin. I let the grin spread easily across my face, laughing slightly. I twirl faster the wind whipping around me, never once opening my eyes. Going back to the first day we met, here in this very park. Memories flooding my brain as time fast forwards to this day, the day you were ripped from my side. Leaving me alone and defenseless.

“Are you crazy?” A voice appears out of nowhere. My breathe catches slightly and I stop and turn toward the sound. A boy is standing under the tree. His hair is dripping wet and you can see his breathe in the air. His brown hair and blue eyes that I knew so well. It was all there, except for something was off. I couldn’t tell what it was though. The thing that scared me the most was that it was him. Jason. I looked around confused. Was this a dream? I swallowed the lump in my throat, knowing this was no dream. But if this wasn’t a dream, then how Jason could be standing there in front of me? He took a step toward me. “Get out of the rain Melissa.” I tried to hold it back, but it came out any way. The sob that forced its way out into the open, filling the space between us. Jason stopped, his expression pained, but covered over to an annoyed look quickly.
“J-Jason?” I voice was scratchy, my throat sore from the lump in my throat.

“Melissa, Get out of the rain. Now.” I could see he was talking through clenched teeth. I had no idea why I was listening to a man who I thought was supposed to be dead. I clenched my fists and walked back to the tree. I hesitated a moment before I sat where I was earlier. Jason followed but sat a few feet from me in the rain, and I knew what was different. He was pale white, all traces of his tanned skin gone.

“Melissa I-” I jumped up shocked by the difference in Jason. His eyebrow lifted questioning me.
“I’m dreaming. This is all a horrible dream. You, Your, Jason?” I stuttered confused, desperately trying to figure out what was happening. Jason urged me to sit back down with his gaze, and I couldn’t object.

“Melissa I came to say good-bye.” His eyes were burrowing into me and I couldn’t look away, trying to understand his words I shook my head at him.

“I couldn’t go without a good-bye.”Jason’s jaw tightened before he sighed deeply.
“You’re dead?” I struggled on the last word and he nodded. “You’re white.” This brought out a chuckle from him and he shook his head, turning more toward me. “You came back.” I gulped in air. “To say good-bye.” A simple mhm escaped his perfect lips. “Why?” The last question surprised him.

    “Excuse me?”

“Why the hell, did you come back to say good-bye?” His eyebrow lifted again. This was killing me. Is this what he wanted?

“It wouldn’t be fair to you if I left without a good-bye.” Jason’s hand moved forward, not quite filling the space between us.

“What ******** Jason?” A tear escaped down my cheek, and I wiped it away quickly.
    “Melissa...”

“No! You’re dead! You can’t come back and say good-bye! You idiot! Once you’re dead, you’re dead. You can’t come back!” I was angry and upset. Clearly. I stood up storming toward him till we were right next to each other. He leaned backward leaning on his hands, which caused another sob escape my mouth.

“Melissa stop.” That’s all he had to say for what he was doing to me? I shoved him backward onto the grass. But I left my hands on his chest glaring down at him, letting the tears fall freely down my cheeks. Let him see the damage he’s done to me on the outside.
“Melissa Read! Stop.” His jaw was clenched again. I crumpled to the ground next to him, holding my shaking hands.

“How can you say good bye when you’re dead?” I screamed rocking back and forth I wanted to be held, to feel safe again.

“I’m a vampire.” I looked up to his serious face again, going numb again. At this point, anything was believable.

“Take me with you.” He shook his head pain showing in his striking features. He was making it worse by being here right now. Didn’t he see that? Didn’t he see what his death meant to me?

“Good-bye Melissa.” He got up backing away, turning away from me. I noticed something else that was off about this whole thing. He was calling me by my name, Melissa. He wasn’t using any of his cute nick names for me, Mel, Melli, Mel’s..

“Who changed you?” The muscles in his back tensed but he continued, walking away from me. “I deserve to know, don’t you think?” I stood again leaning against the tree as he stopped and turned back around.

“You’re making this harder for you.” He walked over to the tree staring straight ahead.

“Tell me who changed you Jason.” He shook his head like he gave up on trying to save my anymore heart ache, might as well get it over and done with.

“Destiny Caroline Lance is the woman who changed me and since she is the one who was to change me, I am to marry her. We are to be married in a week.”Why was I seeing black spots? I blinked trying to clear my vision but I got dizzy and sunk to my knees.

“Do, do you still love me Jason?” My breathing was shallow and I suddenly wanted the numb feeling to come back, but I’m not lucky like that.

“I’m not a loud to, I’m sorry.” What was he, her robot? I hear leaves rustling and saw him bend down beside me. He left a simple Lotus flower in front of me. It was our flower, beautiful strong pink petals that turn whit near the center, with a yellow center that that seems to glow. I hold back a sob looking at this one flower that meant so much to me. “Good-bye Melissa Read.” He was gone. He’s walking away from me, to his new life as a vampire and his future wife. It’s all over now, Or is it?
