The afternoon comes
As once again,
I sit in the chair,
The chair so well known
To me.
Familiar flashing of colour and light,
The whirring and clicking of mechanized parts
As you talk to me,
Your text like raw emotion
Seeping into my very soul.
You break me with the words you say,
Now and again,
Becoming more frequent,
Day after day,
The same screaming feeling.
My fingers fly across
The hollow plastic shells of letter and number
As torrents of salt and water,
Pure pain,
Stream down my cheeks.
Suddenly I see you,
Tendrils of information fly through my head,
Codes and feelings create the perfect picture.
I come to a stop at the edge of reality,
My very soul aflame with sadness.
I stand raw, naked, and bleeding inside,
As I watch your image fall,
Straight to its knees.
You scream, say you can’t anymore,
As denial fills your heart.
I have a need to help,
You push me away.
Just one more step toward the edge.
Your fear,
My pain – the straight edged image of me,
Rips away your soul,
Throwing it into a river of hurt.
But little do you know,
A body without a soul
Can’t live.
You walk and talk with no emotions,
Your eyes scarred and blank,
Down the only road you know,
The only road left,
I watch and follow,
Still willing,
To show the love you showed to me,
So long ago.
You don’t see,
You don’t know,
I’m walking behind you,
Carrying your lost soul.
