• She walked alone on a gravel path,
Unable to smile, unable to laugh,
The anguish that engulfed her was impossible to bear,
She was walking straightinto misery's lair.

Her dark cloak made with ivory lace,
the hood pulled up to hide her face,
The hem of her dress, caked in mud,
Bouncing on the earth with a soft gentle thud.

Her skin, pale as snow yet dull as rock,
Her eyes were empty, covered by fog,
Yet still somehow, her beauty remained true,
the beauty of her ended youth,

she had by now reached her goal,
The day turned black, black as coal.
She knelt by his grave and weeped and weeped,
And she prayed to God that she too could sleep.
