• she sits so still, so alone and afraid
afraid to step in their threshold, to be daring and brave

she had no friends, and no significant other,
with no one to turned to she consoled in her brother

“why don’t they like me?” she cry and she’d whisper
the brother just smiled, bent down and kissed his dear sister.

her loneliness grew deep, as did her heart
she’d write hopeful words as she sat in the dark

of soaring and birds, birds with long feathered wings,
of toadstools and fairies and fluttering things

reality had never seemed so far away
to the girl who would sit so alone and afraid

she didn't mind though, she didn't mind at all
if her dreams weren't there to catch her she'd fall

fall down to earth, down to her fear and her woes
down to the wars she fights that no one knows.

the seasons passed, kingdoms rose and they fell
the little girl stayed in her dreamland, all was well

until one day another person came with tales tell
she didn't knock on the door, she didn't ring on the bell

the little girl was frightened, but tried to be brave
she put on a smile, forced a small wave

the other was beautiful, the other was strong
she was witty and funny, the two got along

the seasons passed, kingdoms rose and they fell
the dreamland was melting and yet all stayed well

the girl had made a friend, not the first in her life,
but the first to make a difference, to free her from her lonesome and strife.

her feelings for the other slowly grew into a strange thing
feelings that made the little girl's heart flutter and sing

she found them returned, life couldn't be better
nothing progressed but she was still happier than ever

things were as they should be, if the other got what she wanted
little girl owed her that much, for the other gave her things to be flaunted

like a heart as big as the universe, and as deep as the sea
a heart to be shared with the girl of her dreams

when she finds her little girl will no longer be sad,
but there's not much to change for she already has.
