Shortly after the incident with Vince, Nikki found himself in another kind of lesson. They weren't run by his father, but by the head assasin of the Valentines at the time. He had gone to Sinistre's school. Nikki's father tried to get him back in the school, but Sinistre refused. So here Nikki was, learning to be invisable until the last possible moment. It was rigorous, and more physical than his father's Don lessons, and Nikki hated them. Assasin lessons were a slap to the face, reminding him of what he could've been. Meanwhile, Vince was rubbing the change in heirs to the Valentines in Nikki's face every chance he got. Nikki was less than amused.

One day, Nikki was called into his father's office, secretly, his head soared, and he hoped that maybe he would be re assumed as the next in line to be Don.
It was not so.
"Nikki you are weak." Giovanni said to Nikki, almost as if stating an afterthought.
"Father, I---"
Slap. Giovanni swung around and smacked Nikki in the face, hard. Nikki fell down and felt his skull connect with the coffeetable. Blood ran down his forehead into his eyes. Nikki tried to wipe the blood away, but Giovanni grabbed him by the chin and forced him to look at him.

There was a moment of silence, as Nikki stared into his father's endless eyes, the color of the ocean. Nikki tried to pull away from Giovanni's grasp, but was held tightly. "You're eyes betray you Nikki, you are not like the rest of the Valentines, you are unworthy of the family name."
"....Yes sir." Nikki said reluctantly through clenched teeth.
Giovanni let him go and Nikki immediately stood up, smearing the blood from his eyes.
"I brought you here today to toughen you up hopefully." Giovanni said slowly, as he walked back to his desk. "We can't have a weak assasin running around, you get caught and you'd sing like a canary to whatever Belle said they might decide to let you live if you do."
Nikki scowled, "That's not true and we both know it!"
Giovanni ignored him. "C'mere Nikki." He said, beckoning to him. Nikki looked at him warily as he slowly walked towards him, keeping about five feet away at all times. Giovanni reached out quickly and grabbed Nikki by the wrist.
Crack.
Nikki screamed. "what the hell!?" His right hand hung limply from his wrist. Nikki tried not to react, but a tear ran down his cheek.
"You see? That's your problem. You can't handle pain." Giovanni said boredly. "And we're gonna do this until you do."
Nikki looked at him, shocked and he turned to run, but not before Giovanni had the knife he'd been hiding behind his back and stabbed him in the side. Nikki fell to the ground, angry tears running down his face.
