Occam's Woodlouse Memoir
A account of a Longisland Porcellio scaber and his new family.
The Green Bee
domokun
Every summer in my backyard for as long as I can remember these tiny green bees would come out to hang in tree in the front, mostly in the morning. I would stare at them for long periods of time (Because I am sad that way). When I would tell my girlfriend she would laugh and tell me there are no such things as green bees! I should stop making up stories about animals that do not exist. I would promptly start to freak out and go into a rant:

Green bees are real I just stared at two for like an hour! They are really tiny and have homes in the ground. In fact they are metallic green bees and they are really cool! They are nothing like when I saw the goatsucker or the willow of the wisp and the ghost of the dead German guy. Nor can I prove or disprove that all leprechauns (Menehune) have moved to Hawaii because the gays stole their rainbow. Nothing against the gays but you did steal their rainbow

My face would scrunch up as I said anything about the bees! So this would make her egg me on further because I had such a good reaction to this topic. I would tell her that I would capture one as proof that they existed. I woke up every morning for a week just so I could try to catch one. When I finally did, I brought her the bee she looked at it and told me that I painted it to look that way. I could hardly stand it my face became ultra scrunched complete with sweat and a hopeless walk of shame.

Over the years I have tried many ways to prove that these bees are real:
Pictures (nope u Photoshoped it)
Video (nah to grainy)
I witness testimony (8year olds don’t count)
I would try any combination of ways but there was no way to prove it. It is my inner need to prove things are real that make me so determined and my girlfriend knew I would not stop.
Till my birthday 08 that is, my whole family was there and I was just wandering the yard looking for turtles. (Yes box turtles my yard is pretty cool!) When I stumble onto one of the green bee burrows, my eyes got big sweat formed immediately around my face. I ran grabbed my beloved girlfriend my brother and my father we gathered around the tiny hole in the ground. At first nothing but then it poked its head out of the hole it was like finding Bigfoot! At last victory but my girlfriend said thats not a bee, they don't live in the ground? I told her Green bees do and that was how I solved the mystery of the green bee.

Turns out its very common halictid bee you can wiki it (dork alert)
