What You Need To Know About Life
More Specifically, Mine.
We Are All Made of Stars
I went to an open lecture this morning about Supernovae.
AT least, that's what the flyer said. Extra credit was offered
to anyone willing to drag themselves out of bed to listen to a
nonessential lecture at 9am, and of course I'm gonna get
extra credit where available. Beyond that aspect, I am utterly
fascinated by astronomy; a novice, yes, but fascinated none-the-
less. If it weren't for the uncomprehendable math in the subject,
you could bet your sweet a** I'd major in it.
How perfect would that be? A career that lets me work the night
hours AND gives me an excuse to stare at stars? Dude. Seriously.
Dude.
But this guy was horrible. He barely touched on supernovae, but
instead spent the bulk of the 45min lecture talking about the
telescope he made that cost him his marriage [although I think
it was his blantant homosexuality;]. On top of that, he was a
horrible public speaker. He bypassed well over half of his power
point slides [which I'm starting to agree with my professors when
they say powerpoint is the devil], he was way too technical about
his work, and he didn't present at all what he mentioned in his
overview. There was no clear organization to his lecture, more
like he just grouped some parts together because they kind of
sounded good together. Graagh! Tell us about supernovae, show
us the pretty pictures, and shut up!
Oh well, the Agnes Scott open lecture is next Friday, and you can bet
your a** I'm going to that.
At least I got to spend some time with the guy. Whether or not I
own up to myself and make more of this, I still like the guy as a
friend, and he's fun to hang out with. He mention to me last week
that he'd brought his telescope with him, and I told him that Mars
is at its best viewing conditions right now. If I'm lucky, I can
convince the rest of the geek group to head out to the field sometime
this week and check it out; along with my favourite constellations,
and see if we can get a half-way decent view of the nebula in Orion's
sword. I can't remember if andromeda is out now, or where the "fuzzy
blob" of cassiepeia was. Hmm...

Anyway, at least I got to spend time with the dude.
