Lost in Wonderland
I've gone mad, and can't get out...
ST11 Post 8 McCoy
His mother hadn’t raised a hooligan, no sir. She would have his rear for the way he had talked to this young lady. Hell, she might be dead, but damnit, Bones believed in Heaven, and knew what would be awaiting him once he died and went to see the big guy upstairs. Well, firstly he’d meet his mother who’d give him an ear full for all his misdeeds and then let God have at him. He shuddered mentally at that, knowing full well that would be his after life.

McCoy glanced momentarily at the silver band on his left pinky. Guilt was a b***h, especially for him. He had too much already.

Speaking of that newly adapted guilt, Bones paused in his stride. Damn, she could shout. Good thing no one was lingering in the halls at the time, or else that would have been a sight. First time someone had out and called him such a name. Jim would have a hay day with that. He stiffened at her demeanor towards him, reminded him of his ex when she threw the divorce papers in his face. Not a good memory to associate this with.

He glanced down at the familiar vial. A sleeping aid. The doctor was baffled for a moment when she thrusted the vial in his hand.“Ah, hell..” he cursed underneath his breath when she turned and walked off from him. Smart thing to do is approach her and apologize, or take the vial and sleep. Regardless what route he took, Bones wasn’t going to rest easy. Discarding the latter, he went after Zafirah.

“Look, hold up.” Bones called after her. Once in range, he grabbed ahold of her shoulder. Taking a deep breath, he eyed the woman, “Sorry about my behavior its been a long two days…and it ain’t over…” his hand drifted off her shoulder, to ruffle his messy hair. “Thanks for this.” He held up the vial before slipping it in his breast pocket of the jacket. “No hard feelings.” And to show that he didn’t harbor anymore, the doctor approached a console panel on the wall. He had a gut feeling she had been in search for something earlier.

Bones eyed the woman, and inclined his head, “If you get lost aboard the Enterprise…use this. Its voice recognition only, therefore you don’t have to worry about someone finding ya.” Giving a brief smile, the CMO left her with that and made his own journey. Half way back to his quarters, McCoy doubled back to sickbay. He needed to check on one more thing before heading for his well needed rest.

Entering sickbay, Bones noticed the small chaos that had erupted from his departure but little to no mind to it. Nurse Chapel had it under control and McCoy thought it was best for a nurse to learn to rely on her own set of skills. Luckily for the moment, no one had spotted the CMO as he wandered towards the back of sickbay and entered through the door to his office.

His office was clean, not big, but fit a desk, two chairs and his personal medical console. Sitting, or rather plopping down in his chair, McCoy turned the console on and began his personal log and report.

He rubbed his eyes, leaning back after the report was given and sent to Starfleet headquarters. McCoy would just have to do this again tomorrow. That just put scowl on his face right then and there. Turning back to the console, he was about to switch it off when his little inbox flashed, indicating he had a message.
Frowning, the doctor opened it and was surprised to see the subject line of: Daddy. Either someone was flirting, had a sick sense of humor, or it was Jim messing with him. McCoy decided to pick the last choice and nearly deleted the message before reading it…but, he was curious.

“Lets see what Jim has to say…” he mused to himself, opening the message. His eyes traveled right to left. It took him a good solid five minutes to realize this wasn’t Jim playing a joke on him, rather his daughter had found him. Bones was flabbergasted that she had even knew how to reach him. They had little to no contact at all, thanks to the ex-wife.

Apparently, Joanna was living on the planet Cerberus for school. A little young, or was she young? Damn, McCoy momentarily face palmed. His mind was losing it, if he couldn’t even recall his daughter’s age. He blamed his lack of sleep. The doctor let out sigh. He wasn’t sure what to do. Reply now or for later? His mind wasn’t in the right place but he didn’t want to make his daughter think he was ignoring her. So, sitting himself up straight, he stared at the console screen for a long time before the words appeared in his head….

Dear Joanna….began the reply.
