Leonard McCoy

The forming of words should have come easily to him. Years of wanting to have a decent chat with his only daughter would have been easy…but damnit all, he was having a hell of a time. What was there to write? Except for the obvious, but he couldn’t. McCoy knew his own state of mind would ramble about his ex-wife and how that vile woman kept him from her. Though he was sure, as indicated by his daughter’s letter, that she knew the reasons behind his lack of contact. It just didn’t make it any better.

He wasn’t aiming for father of the year or even for the moment. Bones just wanted to write a heart felt letter.

Nothing came, and the minutes seemed to tick on by….and then it hit him. With a smug smile upon his features, he began typing quickly. His fingers were a blur and then stopped suddenly. A pause of thought before he went on, this time, he slowed down the pace.

Leonard had gotten a page an half typed up when he felt the presences of someone watching him. He was about to snap and inform who-ever the hell it was to leave when said person spoke out. The CMO glanced warily up to see Christine Chapel fixing him with that look. The type of look your mother gave you when she disapproved of your childish antics. Of course, Leonard had received it quite often when growing up on the farm. It had been hard not to misbehave…Sides, his cousin had asked for it.

McCoy frowned, shifting in his chair. Damn. The woman knew how to work it. Play it nicely and get it done. That’s what Bones liked about Christine. She knew the bed side manner in dealing with patients. He just didn’t like it directed at himself. ”Chapel, I was going…” his voice trailed off when she exited the office. Bones sighed heavily, rubbing his brow.

It was nice someone wanted to look after him, as hell, he wasn’t. Upon her return, he was basically instructed with a smile to deliver the sleeping medicine to Zafirah. At least now he knew her name. “Thank you nurse, I’ll be more than happy too…” His gaze followed Chapel out the door before returning to the computer console, ”…just right after this…”. Bones settled the two viles in his jacket pocket and returned to his letter.

Ten minutes later, doctor McCoy was seen leaving sickbay, but not before Nurse Chapel had given him the room number of Zafirah. He was given a few suspicious and curious glances, to which he ignored as he headed down the familiar corridors of the Enterprise. He arrived at the turbo lift, took it to the right deck and marched on down to Zafirah’s room.

Leonard was surprised to find that the girl was only a couple of doors down from his own. ”Small world….damnit, I’m talking to myself…” he smiled slightly, laughing at himself. He really did need to get that sleep, or else he might start stalking the corridors in his underwear as he sleep walk. And he didn’t want that to happen…Jim would have too much fun with it.

Clearing his throat, the CMO knocked on the door, ”This is Doctor Leonard McCoy..” still had to be somewhat formal. He was sure the tiredness in his voice gave away the fact that he did not want to be here…and yet he was. Bones didn’t want a lecture from Christine. He might be the CMO, and all around crank, but he sure as hell knew when to not mess with a woman and her wrath.

Settling his hands behind his back, as he awaited for an answer. He began to wonder if she was even there..the girl had trouble before locating herself around the Enterprise….

All I have left is my bones..
