• The Children of the Moon have taught me much, including their way of life, their rules, and they have taught me the meaning of living, really living. about three months ago i had only dreamed of being a werewolf, and my friends all dreamed of being vampires. if our dreams came true, this would immediately make us enemies. but, it was a risk i was willing to take, seeing as the only true friends i had did not believe in any mystical creatures, so we never discussed the matter. one day i had returned home early from school and researched werewolves. what i had found made me curious. so, like any other girl my age, i did exactly what the website told me not to. i went to my back yard and drew a circle in the dirt. when the circle was finished and i was sitting in the circle, i read an incantation that was supposed to make me a werewolf. i started out saying the words softly, not wanting my neighbors to hear, but soon my voice grew louder and louder. the wind blew quickly, quicker than ever, and i was soon shouting over the wind. my voice traveling across the city to the werewolves that were listening. when the last line of the incantation was said, i felt a single drop of rain splatter my forehead, bringing me out of my trance. just then, my cell phone rang. mom! i thought. and sure enough, my mother was calling to let me know that she would be home in a half hour. i grabbed my notebook and ran inside the house, quickly picking up my stuff and returning outside, i heard a faint howling in the distance, but i thought nothing of it.

that night, around six o'clock, i put on a cape with a hood and left for a walk through the woods. as my boots crunched on the fallen branches, i heard the howling again. but this time, there were at least five different voices. a rush of adrenaline shivered up my spine and i ran up a huge hill in the thick, french woods. the howling continued as i ran up the hill. when i reached the top, i felt my hands fly to my face, cupped around my mouth, as i let out a loud howl in return to the others. when they responded again, i was so excited that i could run to them, find the, wherever they were. so, i did. my heart was pounding like the heart of a ferocious beast as i ran over the hills and dodged the wet trees. my hair fell loose from my hair tie as i ran as quickly and effortlessly through the woods, and i didn't care at all. the howling continued, and i returned the call with a loud howl, broken by a tree branch smacking me in the face. it broke the skin on my face, releasing a drop of scarlet blood to run down my cheek, yet i felt no pain. finally, the howling was closer than ever, and i had found the others. the children of the moon.

three of them dropped form a tree and three more were on the ground to begin with. they each had a tattoo of a pentagram on their right wrists, indicating that they were all part of the same pack. the one with wavy, black hair down past his ear by at least and inch, approached me, sniffing the air. he blinked and his eyes changed to an orange color.
"and, who are you?" he asked, sniffing the air around me, looking for a trace of familiarity. "you are not a child of the moon herself. why are you here?" he snapped at me. turning his back to me, he made some kind of a motion to his pack. another boy who had dropped from a tree came close to me.
"how did you find us. you tracked us. but how, you are only human." their voices had thick french accents and they all had matching hair styles.
"actually-" i began, but the boy cut me off.
" you read the incantation, didn't you?" he interrupted. i nodded my head slowly. "she is one of us. but she has never changed before. ever. she is a child of the moon and she is the one who was howling back to us all that time. this means that Angela has been caught, or worse..." his voice trailed off and i looked up at the sky. it was going to rain again.
"come with us." the boy ordered, and the whole pack stalked off. i hesitated, but i couldn't resist following. finally we reached our destination, a large factory of some kind. and on the inside wall, there was a mural painted that showed seven people standing in the woods on the night of a full moon. there were six boys that looked identical to the boys that i had found. i looked at the seventh figure, it was a woman, she was painted completely except for her face. "that," he pointed at the woman. "was going to be Angela. until she left us." the boy explained.
"i am Gabriel, the leader of the Children of the Moon."
