• *Brrrriiinng!* A school bell blared through an intercom as students yelped in pain, as the screeching noise blasted their eardrums out. Once they realized that meant school started and they only had three minutes left to get to class, there was a stampede for the doors. Mr. Leonard shuffled his papers at his desk and waits for his students to enter, female sophomore walked into the classroom and her appearance sent a ripple of giggles and whispers through the early students. She is dressed like a punk, her short black hair has wide streaks of pink and she is wearing a short pink and black jacket with matching pants and hat. She walked over to the teacher and handed him a note then sat down at the back of the classroom. He waited for the tardy bell to ring and glaring at the late comers, then moved to the front of the class and cleared his throat, “Ok class um I have two announcements, you obviously can tell we um have a new student in the class. Um miss can you stand up for a moment.” she got to her feet and all the girls burst out laughing, “Now I don’t see anything funny about her!” he barked.
“Her hair is so funny!” one of the girls gasped.
“Who streaks their hair with that shade of pink? So trashy.” another giggle and a fist slammed down on her desk.
“You got a problem with the way I look?” the new girl growled, “Because I don’t like your plain blond hair either. Its too flat and stupid looking if you ask me.” and all the girls fell silent.
“Ah ok well her name is Nadia Torres and I want you all to make her feel welcome. Nadia, also no hats in class.” he called and she yanked her hat off and tossed it onto her desk, “We also have another student entering our class. Please welcome Drake Thomas.” and an incredibly handsome boy stepped into the room, his black hair was deep and darker than the other black haired boys, and his eyes were perfect spheres of blue, all the girls sighed dreamily except for Nadia who began to glare at Drake, “There’s a seat next to Amanda right there Drake, that will be your seat.”
“Thank you sir.” He said and sat down next to a girl with short brown hair who blushed scarlet.
The bell rang almost two hours later, signaling class to be over; Drake pulled the girl over and began to tell her something as a red haired boy walked over to Nadia, “Hey, the name’s Jake. Jake Park.”
“Yeah?” Nadia asked distracted, Drake had just left the room and the girl was walking over.
“Jake, you won’t believe what Drake asked me!” she cried.
“’Can I have a mint?’” he offered, “I don’t care. You were the one who ditched Rick.” He suddenly remembered Nadia, “Oh yeah, Nadia this is Amanda Cress.”
Nadia stepped forward, “Stay away from Drake. He’s dangerous.”
“You can’t tell me what to do! You’re not my mom!” Amada cried, ‘Besides he asked me to homecoming tomorrow and I’m going!”
“I know what he is, just stay away from him if you want to stay alive.”
Jake backed out of the room and ran into a blond haired boy who was watching the two girls, “Oh hey Jake.” He said and grinned, “I have the stuff. Who shall we hit?”
Jake looked over Rick’s shoulder and saw Drake walking away, “Lunch, we’ll get that new guy, Drake.”
They stood behind a pillar two hours later; they had followed Drake to the field where it was completely deserted and pulled out two squirt guns, Jake’s eyes traveled the field and saw Nadia was behind a pillar also but she was holding a short, gleaming dagger, “Look it’s the new gi- What the hell is she holding!? Dude, is that a dagger?!” Rick hissed quietly as his eyes followed Jake's.
She raised the weapon as Drake caught sight of her, a smile played around the corners of his mouth, Jake took aim and fired. A large spot of red appeared on his shirt as Nadia lowered the dagger in surprise but there was a smell of tomatoes and salt coming from the stain also, Rick grinned at Jake, “Now that was a great idea. Ketchup squirt guns? Classic.” But Jake was watching Drake who vanished into thin air.
“Dude, go and stay with Amanda, now.” And he ran over to the still shocked Nadia as Rick ran up the stairs, his squirt gun now in the trashcan, ‘You ok?” he asked
“Ketchup?” she asked as she slid her weapon back into her bag, “That was stupid you know. Do you have any idea what he is?!” she snapped.
“A jerk that caused my best friend to get dumped.”
“Stupid, come on and look like you’re gonna puke.” And she grabbed his arm and dragged him to the office as he made himself look sick, “Um excuse me but Jake here isn’t feeling well and his dad told me to take him home for him.” The secretary looked at her suspiciously.
“What about your teacher?” she croaked.
“I don’t have a third period so I’m sure no one will mind.” She replied.
“Fine, feel better Jacob.” She croaked and they ran to Nadia’s car.
She climbed in and started the engine as he picked up an object that was on his seat, “Who are these people?” he asked and held up the object, it was a picture frame.
The picture was of four people, all had black hair, a man with circular glasses the hung on the bridge of his nose, he was wearing a black suit, a woman with her hair in a braid that laid over her shoulder she had on a dark grey Chinese dress, a seventeen year old boy with spiky hair who was also wearing a black suit and a ten year old girl who was obviously having a blast as she clung onto the woman’s arm, her black dress was wrinkled, Nadia looked at him weird and spoke in a voice thick with tears, “My family. It’s only me and my brother left.” She pulled out of the parking lot as Jake shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
Nadia pulled up to a large white house that stood next to a cliff that was jutting out over the ocean, “Yo, I’m home!” she shouted once they stepped inside.
A young man wearing a white lab coat peered out of the door to their left, “Sup sis, who’s that?”
“Pal from school, we’re goin up stairs. Catch ya later.” And they ran up a flight of marble stairs and into a large room.
Jake was almost shocked when he saw the room, he was expecting black everything and the walls covered with weapons, but her room looked normal. Everything was either a shade of dark blue or purple and no weapons on the walls, “Ok, lets see. Jake, you’re not going to homecoming.” He jerked back and saw her lay something dark onto the bed.
“Why not!?” he cried and she glared at him.
“Do you know what Drake is?!” she snapped, “A vampire! One of the two oldest vampires in the world.” She turned away but Jake saw her brush some tears away.
“Wait, you don’t mean he’s Dracula!” he cried and she smiled at him.
“Wow you’re taking this better than I thought. No he’s not Dracula, just Drake. But he is Dracula’s son.” She pulled the picture from the car out of her pack, “And my half brother.”
It took a moment for this to sink in, “What!?” Jake yelled.
“My mother was a vampire hunter like me, until she married a man she thought was the most handsome man ever. Two years ago, my parents got into an argument and this time she was serious about leaving him. That is until he bit her and turned her into what he is. My brother is hoping on curing her with science. But there’s only one way.” She paused and stared at him with an interested look, “Man, say something or do something. You’re freaking me out over here!”
Jake blinked and closed his mouth which was hanging open while she was talking, “Sorry who do you turn a vampire human again?”
She sighed, “Kill the vampire who bit her. That’s why I have to kill Drake, I just hope I inherited my mother’s strength.”
    “Wait but didn’t-”
“Yes Dracula was the one who caused all this but by killing his only vampire son, I might piss him off and force him out of hiding. Then I can kill him.” She looked at him, “If you help, you’ll be in danger. I can’t let anymore people turn into those things but I won’t be able to protect you.”
“Look just tell me when to pick you up tomorrow.” She looked at him surprised, “I still want a date to the dance.”
    She frowned, “Fine.”

The next night, “Wow.” Jake gasped as Nadia walked over, the dark dress turned out to be a dark gray, Chinese dress, its collar reached to the middle of her neck, the same dress her mother was wearing in the picture.
“The sides are slit so I can hide my dagger and stake. Might not work but still it’s worth a shot. And please tell me that’s not filled with ketchup again.” She groaned as she spotted the squirt gun hidden in his jacket.
“Nope, I got some Holy Water from my church, oh yeah. You owe me thirty bucks.” He grinned and they climbed into his car and drove to the gym.
“Where’s Rick?” Nadia asked she had called Jake that afternoon to confirm the plan.
“There, he’s waiting for Amanda and her ‘date’.” He pointed to Rick who was sitting at a table, looking bored and annoyed and began to stare at Nadia, “You know. You do look beautiful tonight.” She blushed as he took a step back, “May I?’ he asked.
“You may.” She replied and he took her hands and they began to dance but way too quickly for Nadia, someone tapped her shoulder.
“May I have this dance?” Drake asked and she spun around.
“Look, Drake-” but she stopped when she caught sight of his eyes, the next thing she knew, he was steering her outside of the gym.
The parking lot was deserted, “Your mother is wondering what’s taking so long. She loves being a vampire and wants you to join her. No more sickness, no more suffering, you will never age.” He whispered and lowered her mouth, his teeth now long and sharp like a snake’s.
Nadia felt something wet hit the side of her head and heard Jake shout, “Sorry bad aiming.” And a second later she leapt back, her hand over her nose and mouth as a horrible smell hit her.
Jake’s aim was better this time and he had sent a stream of Holy Water at them. The water had hit Drake’s face which he was now clutching in agony as she watched his skin blister and burn under his fingers.
“Guess he’s not so good looking now, eh Nadia?.” Jake shouted.
Nadia grabbed her dagger and stake and ran back at Drake, “This is for my mother!” she shouted stabbing the dagger into the spot his heart was supposed to be and yanked it out, “This is for all the families who are suffering because of you!” and she stabbed the dagger back into his chest and ripped it out again, “And this is for me!” and she stabbed the stake deep into his chest.
Drake staggered backwards and after giving the both of them a look of pure hatred, he crumpled into dust and was swept away by the wind. “This has to be the best night of my life.” Jake sighed, “My best friend has his girl back. And I got to dance with you.” Before they left, they watched Rick ask Amanda to be his girlfriend again, she accepted and Rick and Amanda were both named homecoming King and Queen.
“Only for a little bit.” Nadia muttered, they were sitting on the beach; the waves were gently lapping at their toes, “We could have won but you know, with Drake and all.”
“So what should we do now?” he asked and she gave him a confused look, “Dracula remember?”
Nadia leapt to her feet, “Oh no! I forgot about him! Dammit, he could be at the school right now!” she yelled.
“Easy, ‘sides he might not even bother them.” Jake replied.
“No, but he’ll go after you! Oh I never should have let you come! He’ll come after you and I can’t keep an eye on you all the time!” she cried and he grabbed her shoulders and gave her a tight hug.
“Forget about him for tonight. There are more important things that are about to happen.” He whispered.
“Like what?” Nadia asked and he kissed her.
‘He’s right.’ Nadia thought as she kissed Jake back, ‘There are more important things that are about to happen. Oh well, Dracula can wait.’
