• Many a year ago, there was a great empire in an unknown country. The country was very mountainous. It was ruled by a family, but they we not normal people. They we part fox. They had fox ears and tails. They had a son. His name was Rossydan. He was only one year old when the rebellion happened. He had an older brother who was seven. His name was Okarai.
Most people loved these fair and righteous leaders. However, there was one group of people who were jealous of the Royal family. They were angry that such freaks could hold so much power in the country. Their leader’s name was Fatrein. He was a twisted man of about forty years old at the time. Day by day he put together a plot to destroy the empire. And one day, he achieved it.

Okarai was playing with his action figures in the main lobby, their father watched him. His mother was nursing Rossydan in her upstairs room. A group of about fifteen people barged through the large iron doors, Fatrein leading the group. Father stood up, reaching for his knife in its sheath on his side. Fatrein raised a handgun and shot the father and killed him. Okarai let out a small whimper and began to cry. And in a horrible display of regicide, Fatrein shot him in the head without remorse.
Up stairs mother heard the gunshots. And she knew that something was wrong. She hid Rossydan in the closet. Just then the group began breaking down the doors down the hallway. With each slam, the sound got louder, and the crowd got more blood-thirsty. Mother reached for the clay vase. Just as the door flew open, she smashed the vase over Fatrein’s head. She was then tackled by 4 of the men. Rossydan began to cry. Fatrein wiped the blood from his head and approached the closet. He opened to doors to find Rossydan. He grabbed the baby by the feet and considered what to do with him. But Fatrein was eager to announce himself the new emperor. So he handed him off to one of the others in the group. The man looked at Fatrein curiously.
    “Kill it,” said Fatrein.
    “What!?” asked the man.
“I said kill it. It’s not that hard to understand.”
“But… sir, its just a baby.”
“I didn’t ask you to, I told you to.”
“I refuse! You only said we would overthrow them, this is regicide!”
“If you don’t kill it, I’ll do it for you and take you with him!”
    The man hesitated. “Yes sir”.

A man walked slowly up the mountain. A horrible blizzard was brewing and the man did the best he could to remain standing. At last, he found a deep cave and took out Rossydan from his coat. He was wrapped in a white fur blanket. He placed the crying baby on the ground. He took out some pasty baby food and began to feed the baby. Rossydan began to stop crying. Once the small jar of food was empty, and Rossydan was asleep, the man left. He whispered to Rossydan “Don’t worry, ill return tomorrow to feed you. But please, just try to stay alive”. He walked off with sorrow.

A mother snow fox was sniffing around for food. The fox’s coat was white as the snow itself. She made it to the mountainside. She heard a soft whimper come out from the side. She thought it might have been one of her pups, so she walked toward the sound. She came to a long cave. There was a small boy in the corner. He had white hair, fox ears and tail, and was wrapped in a pure white fur blanket. The mother fox sniffed the boy and he giggled. The mother fox took the boy home to care for it as if he were one of her own.
The next day, the man came back, as he had said. He found no baby. He searched the whole cave and walked around for hours trying to find him until he gave up. The man went home, sobbing and hoping that Rossydan had gone quickly and painlessly.

The mother fox had taught Rossydan how to hunt and kill for prey. He even had a snow fox brother. They often hunted and played together. Although with the lack of fangs and claws, he often had to get what his mother and brother gave him. But he was happy. He had a family that loved him and he loved back, even though they were of a different species.

    15 years later

Rossydan was now 16 years old. His fox mother had passed a few years ago, naturally. He was now an expert hunter. He still wore the white blanket now, only he wore this as a coat.
It was now summer and most of the ice had melted and it was fairly warm out. An old man was out hunting for food himself, as was Rossydan and his brother. The old man carried a spear. The foxes and the man crossed paths in the forest. Rossydan’s brother was out first. He startled the man and he drew his spear. Rossydan tackled the man from the side to protect his brother. The man was about to spear Rossydan when he froze. He stared into his eyes. “My God” said the man. He stood up from the ground. Rossydan and his brother were ready to pounce. “Is it really you?” the man said to Rossydan. Rossydan looked curiously at the man and twitched his ears. “The son of the family that got overthrown over ten years ago?” It was the man who had saved Rossydan’s life by taking him to the mountain. He was old and wrinkled now. The man began to weep with joy and hugged Rossydan. “I thought you were dead!”
Rossydan could not speak for he had never been with another human since he was just a baby, but he still found a hug comforting. “Come! You must come back to the town with me!” The man grabbed Rossydan by the sleeve and tried to take him with him. Rossydan’s brother perceived this as a threat and bit the man’s hand. The man came to a realization. “I think I see. You’re connected to this fox. But do me one favor,” the man held out his spear, “take this with you. Use it as a weapon. For hunting, protection, whatever.” The man demonstrated how use it and jabbed the air. Rossydan took the spear hesitatingly. The man patted Rossydan on the head and Rossydan smiled. The man looked at him and walked away with a smile of his own.
Rossydan and his brother still hunt in the mountains as a pair, impossible to separate till death. Rossydan found out how to use the spear effectively eventually. After a few months, the people of the country realized what a horrible leader Fatrein was. And he was overthrown and killed himself. The man who saved Rossydan’s life took over and remained leader until he died of old age twenty years later.
