• Ch.1
Serene was different from others in her village, she did not possess the powers given unto her ancestors... She was no better than a human... "Humans... In the time of great peace, caused the great war... And seperated all of the creatures, turning them against one another. Now our kind lives, scattered about, a mere fragement of what we once were... The only thing worse than a human is a vampire... They were the reason behind it." Serene recited in her brain for the hundreth time. That was what everyone learned in her village, starting from infancy. Humans and vampires could not be trusted. But why did she have to be like them? She did not have the golden skin nor hair that was common for her people... She was as pale as the moon, with contrastingly dark black hair. On top of that, her lips were so red, that she looked like a vampire who had just feasted... Her eyes weren't even the proper green, that symbolized power... No her eyes were blue, like two saphires... So she looked like a vampire, and was as weak as a human... No wonder why she was such an outcast! But, all of this would change forever, the night of her seventeenth birthday...

"Look at her, she's really the offspring of the stupid humans who didn't want her because she looks like one of them" "Don't go near her! You may catch her weakness!" "I heard that if you stand by her long enough, your powers will slowly start to fade away!" Serene didn't even notice... These sorts of comments had floated around her, her entire life. Everybody hated her, except for her mother. "Mom, why am I so different?" "Because you were meant to do greater things than any of us have ever dreamed possible... Just give it time..." But years had gone by, and still, nothing ever seemed to change. However, Serene had hope. On her seventeenth birthday, her powers would fully awaken. The seventeenth birthday was a sacred event… One would receive their true power and their amulet… the symbol of their power. Maybe, just maybe, she would be accepted, once they saw that she did belong, she was a witch.

But on the morning of her seventeenth birthday, Serene had awoken with a great disappointment. She felt no different than before. Desperately, she focused all her attention on the candlestick, hoping for a little bit of magic. "Light, please, just light..." But nothing happened. She didn't have any powers! Nothing had awoken within her! Not knowing what else to do, she escaped into the forest behind her house, and hid. She ignored her mother’s voice, calling out to her. She sat by a small pond that she always came to, when something troubled her… There she remained, ignoring everything except her broken heart… Unknown to her was that as she sat there, consumed with misery, she was not alone… It watched her, never once moving from its spot… It saw nothing but her, craved nothing but her… But it could wait…

After the sun had long set, she felt that it was safe to return home… She glanced one last time at her precious little pool… But something glowed from within its depths… She reached into the water, toward the glowing light… something connected with her long and slender finger…

It was small, and as she pulled it up out of the water toward herself, she noticed that this was the origin of its light… It was a small stone, a deep blue that matched her eyes… It was cool, but not wet. It felt like it belonged with her, next to her heart. Quickly, she placed it on the chain she had worn her entire life. The stone looked right against it… Feeling confused, but now somewhat hopeful, she rushed home.

When she made it home, everyone was asleep. Disappointed, she lay down on her bed, and slowly drifted off into a troubled sleep.

Serene awoke with a start... There was a sharp pain upon her neck... A man, no a vampire, was biting her! This was wrong, so wrong... The both of them would die! No witch could ever survive a vampire bite, the venom in their fangs was too deadly. Likewise, the vampire would be killed by the magic in the witches blood... But maybe, Serene wasn't witch enough to die or to kill...

"Serene! NO!!!! You! You will die you MONSTER!"

The last words Serene heard, in her mother's voice, as darkness enveloped her... All she wanted was to sleep, sleep forever more... She could no longer see, nore hear, nore sense herself... All was black...
