• I ran fast and hard. My chest hurt more and more with each step. I didn’t know if it was from being tired, or the feeling like I voluntarily running to my death. Out of no where a flash of light exploded and my eyes were filled with quick pain. One of the huts was lit on fire, and all the others were starting. So many people were one the ground crying or not moving at all. I saw the same creatures from my past when we went up to the border. They couldn’t see me, but I saw them. Their large bodies mercilessly killing the helpless still in the village. It was as if I was looking through the eyes of someone else, and was watching me stand there.
I saw a man, with a large helmet on his head holding up a girl. I looked closer and saw it was Leaf. She was crying, and pleading for something. She turned and saw me. She cried out my name. I wanted to run up to her and take down that man, but I couldn’t move. I saw her desperation as she reached out her arm for me, as if it could reach the distance. The man turned his head and saw me, said something to another man and stabbed a sword through leaf. Her beautiful pure white dress was now red with blood. He dropped her dying body to ground as if she didn’t mean anything to him. Like she wasn’t worth living and he was doing the world a favor. She wasn’t moving, and I knew she had died.
He was walking toward me. I freaked out and tuned around. I ran faster than I ever had before. I didn’t look behind me, but I could feel his presence. I could feel him gaining. I saw someone in front of me about twenty feet. “Run! Run!” I yelled waving my arms. The person did the opposite, and ran straight toward me. He was holding a sword. Not thinking of where I was going I tripped over a tree root, and I saw the man raise his sword. I got ready to feel it go through me, but the man jumped over me and plunged it into the man behind me. His feet landed on the man’s chest, and as they feel the sword went in deeper into his chest. By the time the man landed on top of the evil man, the evil man was dead.
“You fool! You lead him straight toward the children!” I could see it was a boy, about fifteen. I hadn’t thought of the fact I was leading him to the others, I just thought of myself. I could have killed them, like it was my fault Leaf died. “ Go back with the others.” I stood there looking at the courageous boy. “Go!” I ran towards the spot. It was different, they were all surrounding another new boy about fourteen. I didn’t know where they came from, but I felt safer with them here.
“Okay, is everyone here?” The second boy asked. Their little heads bobbed up and down. “ We begin to move now. Grab whatever you have here, but do not go back. If you do we go without you, got it?” The kids didn’t really have anything to take. One or two had bread, or something like that, but no one really had anything important. The first boy walked past me. I ran up to him and asked,
“ Where are we going?” I asked him. He turned and looked at me like I was a nuisance.
“ Were going to the west camp site. Any other stupid questions you would like to ask?”
“ Why did you two come here? Was it to save us?” He turned and looked away and started to walk away again.
“ Figure it out.” We walked for two days. We walked past the night, and sleep the next morning. We did the same the next day. When we arrived, there were thousands of tents, some old and ruined, and others new with vibrant colors. They were all different, it was a mix matched bunch of random tents side by side. They were torn up, and falling apart. They looked like they were abandoned, and these kids found them.
“ Okay.” the first boy began to say, “ You all will go up to Jasmine, and she will assign you.” the two boys then walked off into the large crowd of children. Out of all of them the oldest must have been fifteen, maybe sixteen.
