He leaned against the rock wall as the full moon reigned high above in the sky. The soft beams illuminated part of the old man’s face. His eyes were tired; his skin had aged with the time he spent in this place. Today was the day they would take his life to pay for his juvenile mistake. Oh how he was a fool for killing that old woman. He coughed a strangled cough before leaning back again. He slowly opened his eyes again even though the pain danced in his throat. He sat there thinking about the family he left, and would never see again. Picturing his laughing wife in a light brown dress that reached mid-shin. She and their baby girl were rolling in the tall grass around a pond that had cat tails sticking out, while the frogs and snapping turtles sang their daily songs. He snapped back to reality when he heard steel toe boots on the cement floor. He sighed silently to himself, but he quickly shuffled to his knees. Clasping his hands together, he prayed for forgiveness and for god to watch over his family. He stood up and faced the guard who was now in front of his cell. He solemnly walked with pride over to the gate, his last steps of life.

- I like it! It shows that people regret their decisions (if the outcome was wrong)
