Mako stretched out her arms over her head as she walked away from her school. Her large bag hung on her shoulder as she paused and looked up at the sky. Mako had just finished the soccer practice for that Sunday. The next practice would be tomorrow, Monday, after school. Mako let out a sigh. Although she did enjoy sports, her teammates made it hard for her to actually play with her feelings in it. They only liked her for her skills. Ever since she had transferred to this school it had been like that. Mako was very good at sports. But besides that, she was just your average 9th grader. There was nothing special about her think, brown hair. Or her brown eyes. Or her plain clothes. Was that maybe why they didn't like her? Did she have to be special, someone she wasn't? So why do they have to like her when she plays sport. SHe shook her head.
Didn't think about it too much. It doesn't really matter anyways.' she continued along the concrete path. Today's practice was early in the morning so it is about noon right now. Turning a corner, Mako found herself in the streets of Tokyo. People were all around her. She didn't feel like going through the crowd today so instead of going strait like usual, she crossed the street into a local park. It was nice and quiet. There were lots of plants and vegetation. In the middle of the park was a playground but Mako wasn't going to stop there. There was almost none there. Only a few people passed her, one including a small girl with silver hair. Mako smiled at her as the girl skipped past her, holding a rather large doll in her hands. Mako guessed it was an expensive doll, probably made out of porcelain. Mako reached the end of the path she was walking on. She looked around as she realized that she had never gone home this way before. Noticing a store named 'Hilton Jewelry' she ran across the street and into the store. A small bell rang as she opened the door.
"Hello there. Is there anything in particular that you are looking for?" an old lady asked Mako right as she walked in.
Mako was a bit nervous to reply at first but realized that there wasn't any need to be and asked, "I was actually wondering if you had a map I could borrow?"
The old lady got up and handed Mako a small folded up map, "There you go."
"Thank you very much!" Mako bowed with gratitude. She opened up the map.
'Am I really that....idiotic?' Mako thought as she studied the map. It turned out that her house was right behind this store. Mako gave the map back and exited the shop. She looked to her right. Then to her left. THe shop was in the middle of the other shops so it would take a while to reach either end of the street. Deciding on taking the right way, Mako came to a halt when she saw an alley in between the jewelry shop and the shop next to it. She looked and saw her house at the other end.
'A shortcut! This might just be my lucky day!' Mako closed her eyes and hummed to herself as she began walking down the alley. Almost at the end of the way, she opened her eyes. She thought she saw something. She squinted her eyes. She ran forwards a little.
Uh...' she thought with disappointment as she reached the object that she saw. It was just a doll, the size of the little girls from the park. It was leaning up against a wall with it's head tilted and eyes closed as if it was sleeping. Mako didn't bother looking at it anymore. Probably just garbage. Mako came home and went up to her room. Her parents had died a year ago and she was good enough to take care of herself. But unlike most children in that situation, Mako wasn't that sad. She knew that her parents had a good life and that they wouldn't want her to be sad and waste the rest of her life by thinking of them not being there. She kept photos of them all around the house, and the government and relatives had given her money to pay for food and the house. Finding nothing interesting on T.V. Mako took out one of her favorite mangas and began to read.
It didn't seem like much time had passed, because before Mako knew it, it was time for supper and then time to go to bed.
"Night, Mom, Dad." Mako said happily to the photo of her parents next to her bed. She crawled under the covers and turned off the lights.
The next day at school, Mako met up with Umisa, one of the only friends she had who actually liked her for more than her skill.
"Hey, Mako, you know that jewelry store behind your house?" Umisa said, her voice shaking.
Mako lifted an eyebrow, "Yea. WHat about it?"
"Well, I wan planning on visiting you yesterday before your practice, so I was walking down the street when I suddenly saw something in the sky! At first I thought it was garbage, but when I looked closer, I saw it was a butterfly!"
"Really? That's nice."
"No! Something was weird about it! I decided to follow it, and by doing that it came a little closer to the ground. THen I saw that it was make out of some kind of purple crystal! I couldn't believe it! I thought it was a toy so I continued to follow it. It flew right into the alley to the right of that jewelry store, but when I followed after it in there, It had disappeared, and when I looked around, I saw something sparkly on the ground. Of course I thought it was the toy butterfly , but when I was about to pick it up I saw that it was some kind of key, one of those wind up keys! And it was made out of purple crystals too! I was creped out by it and when I looked up there was a creepy doll with long purple hair in pigtails sitting up against a wall! I was so scared that I ran right out! Isn't that creepy!?" Umisa shivered as she recalled the memory.
Mako sighed, 'What am I going to do with her?' Umisa always got creped out by something or another, 'But that did seem strange. Could it be! THe same doll that I saw yesterday?! No way....it Couldn't be." The bell rang in the middle of Mako's thoughts.
"Ah!! Better hurry!" Umisa ran up to the doors.
"Hey! Wait for me!" It didn't take long for Mako to catch up with her.
