• “Well just do what I asked you to do next time, and then we won’t have this problem anymore,” shouted my mom “You go to your room before I hurt you! Jenamaye, I just don’t get you sometimes, go.”
I raced up to my room, if only I could get a new mom! Or at least a sister to talk to!!!! I mean really I just need to get away for a while! I flung myself on to the bed and cried myself to sleep.
I woke up a 6:00am. My mother was still sleeping. I saw her pills and her beer bottles. I got dressed and walked the 3 miles to school. As soon as I got there the bell rang to go inside. It was 8:30. I never really got school. I really didn’t get the switching of the classes. I was the slowest learner in the whole school.
My best friend in 5th grade was the only one who I could talk to. It is now 8th grade. She was the only one who didn’t make fun of my name. They would all say mean things like “I bet your own mother even hates you for naming you that!” or “I feel bad for you. I mean, not just for you, but, for everyone you live with, for saying Jenamaye!”
Jenamaye, you look like you had a bad night, are you ok? A text from Jenny. Yaw just a normal night with my mom! I was angry at school, I was angry with my mom. I never want to come back, I thought.
6 long hours later, I walked back home. As normal, my mom wasn’t home. I normally would take a walk through the park, today I just felt like sitting and crying. But a knock at the door startled me.
I ran to get the door. It was a man in a suit.
    “Hello,” I said
“Is your mother home?” he asked.
“No. She’ll be back in…” I looked at my watch 4:23 “an hour and a half.” I explained
“Well I’m here to take you away from here. You must leave this place because your mother isn’t right to take care of you.” He “smiled”
“Look dude, I don’t leave the house without my mom knowing,”
“I’m so sorry; you must not know what I meant. I meant, she’s in the hospital. She was in a terrible car accident,” he sighed “Your mother isn’t going to be ok; she’s going to die, sweetheart.
“I’ve herd of people like you. You fake stuff like this to get girls to come with you. And don’t call me sweetheart freak” With that I slammed the door in his face and locked it. I ran to my room and locked that.
I immediately called my mom. A French accented lady picked up.
    “Hello,” she asked.
    “Hello, is Miss. Hardster there?”
“Oh, miss, Miss. Hardster had passed away, I’m so sorry.” I was speechless.
“Hello? Miss? Are you there Miss?”
“Yaw,” I whispered “Bye.” I put the phone down. That was the only family I had. In the world. When I heard this I was speechless. The words rang through my head, mom, not, here, passed, away, miss. Hardster, gone, not, able. OMG!
Next I herd I knock at the door, I quietly got it.
    It was that guy.
“Now Miss, you must come with me, I mean this is childlike, you running away like you did…” he stopped.
I nodded quietly; he led me to his car.
Beep Beep. Who is at your house taking you away from you m…
“Um… can’t I get a little privacy I’m reading text.” I shoot at him. For he was reading over my shoulder
    “Sorry,” he said.
Who is at your house taking you away from your mom and house and stuff?
-Um... my mom is… lets not talk about it. My mom is dead. I am going to the orphanage, in who knows where, in where who knows.
So as they left in his leather car, I was crying about my mom, my house, my life. It’s all gone now I thought.
“Um… Miss, I know this is sudden taking you away from you life here in this place…”
    “Kentucky.” I corrected.
“Yes. well I was thinking that maybe we would go to, Mass?” he said.
“No.” I said bluntly. “I am staying in Kentucky, with all my friends.”
    He sighed.
To you were going to be better behaved than this. I have never met such a peculiar girl in my life.” With that they said no more.
Three hours later Beep where the heck you I have been calling your house for hours!!!!!!!! I mean how long dose it take to… your not home are you. You were serious about that whole thing weren’t you? I, I never, Jenamaye, I, I feel really bad now.
Its OK I just am a little frizzed out. This guy says were going to Mass. I mean really! Massachusetts! I hope I’ll see you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A couple minutes later this came in. Mass. Wow. I’m just. Wow. Jenn. Just. WoW.
That was that until they were at Mass.
    ********************

Mass, was, well deferent. Very different. I just never got quite used to used to it.
First off, I saw an orphanage, it was the kind you saw a happy place.
    It was.
The lady in charge smiled and said she was “waiting” for me. I meet first the oldest orphan. Sixteen. Her name was Naomi. She was cool.
“Yo kid. You’re what Thirteen? Fourteen? What?” she asked
“Um…. I’m thirteen. My name is Jen... Jenamaye. Please don’t laugh at me.” I asked
“Dude, why would I laugh at your name? It’s better than mine, I would rather have yours. It’s different, not normal,” she held up her hand in a fist. “Hit me with a knuckle touch girl.” She smiled. I did.
It seemed like all the girls wanted something I had that they wanted.
Like friends outside of the orphanage, my name, my eyes, my hair. And there was one girl named Zoë she was the last person I met, she was 12.
“Hi. My name is Zoë. I am 12 years old and I have been here sense yesterday.” She smiled.
    “Hi! My name is Jenn…”
    “Jenn, cool name.”
“Sorry but my name isn’t Jenn, my name is Jenamaye.”
“ Sorry about that, I really like meeting people, and this is really hard for me to be here because, well you probable don’t want to here why I’m here.” She explained.
“Of course I want to know, as long as you stop to breath sometime.” I smiled and giggled. She did to.
“Ok. So my whole family was at this picnic when out of no ware,” she took a breath. “This guy comes out of a bush and shoots every body down. I was in the bathroom at the time so I was safe.” She nodded. “That’s it.”
I felt sorry for her, she losing her whole family to a shooting, wow.
    No my life seemed fine.
She must have seen the puzzlement in my eyes and laughed.
“I’m just kidding! I’ve been here like sense I was born! My mother died giving birth to me,” she sighed. “Then my dad died. I don’t know how but still,” she shrugged “nothing’ to be sad ‘bout, never knew ‘um anyway.” She smiled.
    I liked Zoë

The next day was ok, I didn’t do much, and only one mom came in looking for a girl who was thirteen. I was it. I didn’t like her much. She had red hair, and huge glasses.
“So girl, you got nothin’ to do all day do ya? I mean, you want ta’ come ta’ my house for like, a week. An’ if ya don’ like it ya comeback al’ right?” I nodded. “ O ya, on’ more thin’ I got ta’ tell ya, I got hmmmm, let me think 6 odder’ kids ta’”
