• Chapter 1: Secret

    The room was dark but I could see with my glowing gold eyes. It was normal, nothing out of the ordinary. Pink walls, white drapes and a desk in a corner, barely visible because of all the heavy book piled on top. There was a girl and she was sleeping soundly, unaware of my presence. I looked at her, my heart aching. I examined her dark black hair and her closed eyes who I knew where dark brown, like espresso. I knew her but she didn't know me. I sighed softly and turned to leave. As I left, I spotted a mirror. A pale woman looked back at me. Her most abnormal features were her her creamy white ears and her wolf tail. I knew that if I would look closer, she would have small, but pointy pure white fangs. I turned away sharply, grinding my teeth. Without another glance at the sleeping girl, I jumped out of the window and into the moon lit night.

    "Where were you?" a voice asked from behind.
    I swirled around to see a man. He was fairly tall with hard gold eyes that was a shade darker then mine. I flinched away from him. He was irritated, I could tell because of his stiff tail and his dark gray ears that were pasted to his skull. I gulped.
    "Ken-ichi... I was... out hunting," I whispered, hoping that he wouldn't notice the flaw in my lie.
    "Where is your prey then?" he asked sternly.
    I didn't answer and looked at my feet. My hands were clenched together.
    "Tomoe?" he demanded again, his voice even icier if that was possible.
    "I... um... lost it..." I tried to explain.
    "How?"
    "Uh... An enemy!" I exclaimed.
    "What?!" he roared as he believed me, "There is a spy in our territory?!"
    I nodded, feeling guilty. But I had to do this. I couldn't tell them that I was visiting a human, even if she had some wolf blood.
    "Send out some scouts!" he ordered to some newbies and they scrambled away.
    The frantic beta began to run to our leader, Sanosuke, leaving me alone again. I sighed in relief. The danger had passed. I don't know how long I can keep this up though. It was dangerous, but somehow, I couldn't let go of that human. I tried multiple times, but I ended up distracted the whole day and got a punishment from Ken-ichi in the end. It was pretty painful and my skin where he bit me twitched. I shuddered slightly before sprinting into the forest. This time, I was really going hunting. I felt warm air around me as I transformed.

    Time was ticking faster then I expected. Somehow, it was dawn and I was dead tired. My four paws trudged to camp with a hare hanging from my jaws. This was my wolf form. It was small but powerful and very silent. A deadly killing machine. I morphed back to my human form, the form in which I was most comfortable. It was a personal choice to prefer one form over another. Our camp was filled with diversity, some wolves, others more human like.
    "Tomoe!" a voice called from the crowd.
    I recognized it with ease. Of course I would, anyone else would too. It was the voice of my leader, Sanosuke. His luminous silver furry ears appeared in my view and my eyes met his expressionless metallic butter ones.
    "Leader," I greeted him with my head bowed down.
    "Tomoe," the man replied formally.
    "What may I do for you?" I asked.
    "Come," he said curtly and I detected a certain stiffness in his voice.
    Had he figured out what I was doing? Or had Ken-ichi notice and told him. It would be bad if Ken-ichi was the one who discovered my secret, because then, my punishment would be harsher. I hid my whimper from my alpha who was traveling in front of me, his tail swished.
    "Ran," my leader barked and a light gray wolf trotted to him.
    She bowed and barked back, "Yes, leader?"
    "Don't let anyone in this room," he commanded with arrogance in his tone.
    "Yes, leader," the secretary replied, bowed, and left.
    Sanosuke continued his way and opened a door for me. I stepped inside, uncomfortable that my back was facing him. We were alone, in a dark room lit with only flickering candles and I had a feeling that something important was going to happen.
