• anne woke up with a start to an annoying beeping sound. what a strange dream. she couldn't remember it, only a feeling of panic and running through the halls of her school and into a figure with brilliant green eyes. with a groan, she reached for her alarm clock that was going off annoyingly as usual. when it was off, anne got up and started to get ready for the devil's kingdom aka school.
when she was ready, anne headed downstairs towards the smell of pancakes cooking.
"good morning, sweetheart", anne's mother kissed her forehead and put a plate of her chocolate chip pancakes. "thanks mom and morning", anne hugged her mom and sat down at the table. she grabbed the syrup and proceded to drown her pancakes in it.
"is lucas giving you a ride again?" her mom asked, busy making more pancakes.
"yeah". lucas was anne's best friend. they had known each other since they were babys. anne was in love with him. he had the most gorgeous blue eyes she'd ever seen. her usual daydreams took over her mind as she ate, all featuring her and lucas in the future.
then the doorbell rang announcing that lucas was here a while later. anne shouted to her mom as she ran to the door, "he's here! bye mom!" but she stopped at the full length hall way mirror to make sure she looked okay for school and good for lucas.
her dark brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail that was all the way down her back. her height wasn't going to be a problem today. she was tall and got it from her dad's side of the family. her green eyes stared back at her, the green eyes that didn't seem to come from either side of her family, and caught her attention. the eyes from her dream.
lucas's impatient voice broke through her concentration, "hey beauty queen! let's go already! i don't want to be late again annebelle!" anne's eyes narrowed. he knew that her full name would get her out of the house and get her mad enough to kill.
grabbing her bag as she went, anne ran the rest of the way to the door. opening it revealed a evilly-smiling lucas. his blonde hair caught the sun and his blue eyes sparkled evilly just like his smile. he was shorter than her but it never stopped him from bugging her.
to show him how much he had bugged her this time, anne kicked him in the shin. "ow! what was that for?" lucas was holding his leg and balancing on the other with an expression of fake hurt and confusion.
"don't play dumb. no one is allowed to use my full name and you know it." she pulled back her leg again threatening him.
"okay, come on before we're late again" lucas turned and limped theartically towards the blue truck that used to be his dad's, in the driveway. shaking her head and rolling her eyes, anne followed him.
a while later when the car was heading down the school road, anne's daydreams featured around lucas started again. she focused on them and didn't hear lucas's question. and didn't come out of la la land uuntil he pinched her arm.
"i repeat, who are you taking to the dance?" lucas was asking about the girl's choice dance in three weeks.
" no one yet", anne sighed. if she asked lucas to the dance he'd probably laugh at her or freak out and their friendship would be over.
when they reached the school, lucas parked in his usual place and him and anne walked up to the school together.
some of the guys lucas hung out with walked with him to his locker seperating him and anne. anne walked to her locker with marisa, the school's gossip girl. so the walk was filled with the recent gossip. there was a new kid named james, mary lu asked joey to the dance, leanne and her bf broke up when she was caught cheating on him. so much could happen in a high school overnight.
she would never forget what happened the instant she walked into homeroom.
anne walked through the door and immediately crashed into someone who was a little taller than her. she looked up to apologize and the words got stuck in her throat.
he was amazing. his hair was black and his skin was dark. his eyes were bright green and seemed very familiar. he made anne think of a wolf running through the forest hunting its prey.
she had run into the new kid, james.
