• tab “Don’t even think about it” It was Seifern, sitting alone at the round wooden table. He didn’t mind it though because he liked to be alone. The other people were just too scared to confront him. He was in Mongel, the building at Lunda.
tab The man he was talking to wore a dark cloak that covered all his features. It was Allester, but Seifern doesn’t know. “What? Me?” his sarcasm stung Seifern hard.
tab Allester was standing in front of a board full of stapled papers. Those papers are jobs, tasks, like missions. You take one and read it, do as it wants, and then you get your paycheck. Some of them require you to steal something valuable and some might even be assassination. The paycheck you get depends on how well you do the job, what its worth, and how tough it is. The one Allester was going to take was titled Dragon. It was the highest paying job on the board and the hardest.
tab “Heh” Seifern grins. It’s been awhile since he had someone talk like this to him. “That job is already taken by me
tab “Oh really?” Allester stares up at the board. “So that's why its still there...” his tone was mocking.
tab “True, it’s still on there—but” Seifern stands and walks over to Allester, head raised high, cracking his knuckles. Both of them were the same height. “It’s still mine” he reached out and snatched the paper. “Mine
tab Allester got angry but he didn’t show it. “Okay, I get it, it’s yours. I was starting to have second thoughts about that job cause it requires working with two other people and, well, I don’t like strangers as you can see” he narrowed his eyes and sneered. There seemed to be a harsh tension in the air between them “Always comes to a fatal end for them. I work alone, anyway” without breaking eye contact, he ripped off a job on the board by random and turned to the door, leaving.
tab Once the door slammed shut, Seifern cursed under his breath. He took the dragon job and now he has to complete it. It wouldn’t have bothered him if he didn’t know he had to work with two strangers, two weak humans. But that guy, Allester, was something else. No one talks or acts that way towards a Slayer, towards him.
tab “What’s wrong, Slayer? Cat got your tongue?” the bartender says. He was drying glass cups with a dish towel.
tab No, not him. Seifern thinks to himself, The guy with the blue eyes that just left didn’t act like him. The bartender was more disgusted and annoyed. Allester had been more alive—daring, not trying to talk down to Seifern but trying to get him to step up to the plate. Other slayers act like equals except towards non-Slayers. But when they see a Slayer that’s stronger, more cunning, they act differently. They’re more respective of the stronger one.
tab “I’m leaving” Seifern grabs his bag from the table and goes for the door. When he opened it, the bartender shouts.
tab “You didn’t pay for your drinks!”
tab “To hell with it” Seifern says menacingly, giving the bartender a murderous smile that made him flinch, shutting him up. Seifern closes the door and instantly gets pushed by running villagers. They were headed in the direction of a crowed. There was so much people and shouting that Seifern got a head ache. “Get out of my way!” he roars. The people around him noticed his presence and quickly backed away. They’re scared, good. Now there was more room to walk.
tab Seifern headed for the quietest place in Lunda which was at the exit. Once he was there, he stopped and took the time to look at the paper, at the job he had to do. Under the title Dragon, it read: Hunting for lost treasures in the old underground ruins of Mwal. First go to Ongre and find a man by the name of Lucifer. He’ll be standing under the cherry tree at midnight. Next you will go to Trell and get a ride from a woman named Fen. She’ll take you into the desert and dry canyons. You’ll be dropped off under a rocky arch. After that you walk. Once you reach the mouth of the cave, you’ll meet your two partners. You’re on your own after that.
tab “Mwal?” Seifern slightly shakes his head in disagreement. “Why do I have to go to the Lost City of Mwal?” he sighs and looks for a horse stable, not looking forward to the long trip he has to make to complete the job. There were horses tied on a log, guarded by men. They saw Seifern walk up to them. “Give me a horse” he demanded. Before the men could answer, Seifern untied the strongest looking horse and got on it. “I’ll take this one” he reached into his pocket and grabbed out some golden coins. “Consider this your lucky day” he tossed the money to them as his horse neighed and began running.
tab They headed out of Lunda. Next stop, the dead town of Ongre.
