Tammy still stared in disbelief as I looked over my dress; I turned making sure the black bow in the back still looked perfect. The strapless red dress looked amazing on the mannequin in the store, but I was a little skeptical on how it looked on me. I looked at my dark red hair that used to be in curls down to my elbow, now was piled on my head in a complicated up do, I was still wondering how Tammy did it. “The red heels match perfectly” Tammy said taking me out of the fuss I was having over my dress. I looked down at the strappy heels and nodded, then quickly looked back at the mirror. I touched where the black bow came around my waist to make sure it was tight enough. I quickly threw on some lipstick knowing that was all I would need, my cheeks were already red enough. “Would you stop fussing you look great!” I looked at her dress, hers was red to but it was longer, mine only went down to the top of my knee. With one last glance at myself in the mirror I grabbed the black coat out of my closet and pulled it tightly around me, it covered my dress completely but I would need the warmth. We walked carefully down the steep steps, so we wouldn’t fall down them and break something.

“Tammy here are the keys to my car. I don’t want to see a single scratch on that car when you give it back” I said in my best serious voice, but then we both started to giggle and soon we were having a laughing fit. “That was funny” I said holding back the giggles that threatened to burst out. If there was a single scratch on it instead of the usual mother saying “You’re paying to get it fixed!” My mom gets me a whole new car, and then I use the old one for a back-up. Then again I did give the last "‘Back-up’" to Tammy she still carpooled with me; she’s all about saving the environment Tammy handed me a pair of red gloves while putting on her own. “Its 6:30 now you’d better get going.” I said placing them on the couch. Tammy nodded and walked out the front door with a look of confidence on her face. I saw my car as it glided down the drive and then disappeared down the street. Half an hour left I thought walking over to the TV.

    Mason

Mason stared and stared at the clock, trying to will it to move faster. 15 more minutes he thought to himself tearing his eyes from the clock. He looked in the mirror for the thousandth time since he got in his tux, straitened his tie. . . Again. All he could think of was Ivy’s laugh, how he suddenly felt better about himself like his whole world was centered on hearing her laugh and being with her. In his thoughts of Ivy he didn’t hear his dad walk in, until he hit his leg on the coffee table like he does every time. “Someone should move that” His father’s words slurred Mason could barely make them out. Mason pretended not to be there, it’s not like his father would notice him anyway. Mason quickly looked up at the clock; yes he thought and grabbed his keys to his Black Volvo. He walked past his father now crashed out on the couch, opened the front door and disappeared before you could say “Wha?” Mason hopped into his car quickly.

“You seem nervous” Brian’s voice cut through Mason’s thoughts of seeing Ivy again, he jumped slightly but looked at Brian when he had regained a normal expression.

“What would make you say that?” Mason asked looking innocent.

“Don’t pretend, so Ivy huh?” Brian asked smirking at him.

Mason’s green eyes widened “How do you know?” he asked looking at the clock on the dashboard.

“I see the way you look at her, you might think I don’t but I do” He nodded in satisfaction, before Mason could answer he said “Get going you crazy kid!” And turned abruptly and was out of his sight. Mason turned the key and was off.

I tried not to look at the clock as the minutes ticked by, Tick tock Tick tock Tick tock was the only thing that I could hear as other thoughts ran through my mind at once. I turned the TV off and sat on the couch with my coat wrapped tightly around me. The light knock on the door made my heart flutter, not that it had many beats left. I pulled on the red gloves Tammy gave me before she left and went to answer the door. When I opened the door he took my breath away. The tie his father ordered was tied perfectly just like everything else about him. Mason stared at me, taking in my hair, the gloves, and the high heels. “Are you ready” His voice dripped like honey, smooth honey. I nodded, at a loss of words. He took my hand; his touch set my heart wild. Mason smiled and led me to his Black Volvo.

I couldn’t think of anything to say as we started our drive back to the high school, I glanced at him occasionally to see him doing the same. “I like your hair” Mason said cutting through the silence.

“Thanks, Tammy did it for me” I said. I blushed a deep red and smiled, as we pulled into the high school parking lot.
