• Another round object slammed into the side of my head. I rubbed my head.
“Come on, Gao, pick up the pace! This is soccer, not a tea party!” Yelled the gym teacher, of whom we were to call coach, blowing his whistle. More black and white checkered balls came flying at my face as I deflected them with my arms. I let out a squeaking noise as one hit me in the face.
I tumbled backwards, expecting the ground, but instead something caught me. I looked up; Edan was holding me up by my arms.
“We seem to be running into each other aren’t we?” he said.
I gave a sheepish laugh, “I guess.” I shrugged. He lifted me back up.
“I’m guessing that staying on the ground isn’t your thing.”
“I suppose. But you seem to be a magnet to my catastrophes,” I teased.
He gave a light laugh, “Both statements appear to be true.”
“Yo! Gao, Kellan! This isn’t time for chit-chat! Now Kellan why don’t you get over here and kick a few soccer balls around!” yelled the coach. Edan sighed and walked over; catching the ball the coach threw at him. He placed it on the ground, half way in the field. He kicked the ball, sending it flying past the green grass and directly into the goal.
“Woah! Kellan!” said the coach jogging up. “You’ve got game! What do you say do a spot on the team?”
“I really don’t think so.” Edan said glancing down at me.
“Well then maybe you could help Gao over there. She needs all the help she can get,” coach mumbled. He turned around and blew into his shrieking whistle, “What do you think you’re doing? Move it!”
“Why wouldn’t you want to part of the team? You could have been the star player!” I questioned.
“That’s none of your business,” he said, becoming volatile.
    “But still!”
“What part of ‘none of your business' don’t you understand?” Fury built up in his dark eyes. The wind blew his hair, I couldn’t help but notice. The tips of his hair, above his eyes seemed, singed?
“Listen,” he said. “Let’s just not worry about this ok? It’s not really important.”
“Alright,” I said under my breath. And that, was that. Great job, Hai, now he hates you, I reflected. I should learn just to keep my mouth shut. I didn’t know how, but when I was with Edan, I could be myself. I felt protected when he was there.
I knew he felt the same way. In fact he had the same protective glare as the first star.
