• Monday morning always sucked, all the students knew that they had to go back to school, and most of them knew that they would get scolded due to the fact that they hadn’t done their homework yet. On Monday everyone would always meet on campus and hang around until the bell rang for them to go to their first class, today was no different from any other Monday, save for the new students from Germany. For a small town to get new students was kind of unusual and everyone was talking about it, it had been announced over the intercom and it made everyone realize that they really didn’t have anything better to gossip about.

The announcement said that there were two new students, but it didn’t say if they were a male or female so everyone was anxious to see them, all the guys were hoping for some hot chicks and all the girls were hoping for a stud or a bad boy that made them melt, all in all everyone was awaiting their arrival. The first that they saw of the new students was in the morning, someone was coming to school a little differently than what everyone was used to seeing.

He came from the side of the school, the side entrance to the student parking lot, but he wasn’t in a car, he leaned slightly to the side so his long board made an easy right that made him come smoothly to the front entrance where he grabbed his board and strapped it to his back before walking into the building. Girls that lingered about started commenting on how he looked and what he wore, the guys glared at him, why did the girls care about that stuff? He was a new enemy.

Next was a girl, but she didn’t ride in on a long board, she got out of a car swiftly, and walked straight into the building smiling at a few people and saying hello in German, it didn’t sound much different from hello in English so no one really took notice of the slight difference. This time the guys started to talk about her, and the girls were glaring and proclaiming her to be an enemy, she was the other new student that was definitely for sure, but what classes was she going to be in?

When the bell rang many students mumbled and gossiped about the new students that some of the kids had seen walking into the school, a guy and a girl, both were rumored to be gorgeous, most thought that this sounded pretty lame but their bragging about themselves stopped when the Senior student walked into second period Sculpting III class. The Sculpting teacher looked up from his desk and frowned at the student, he hated it when people were late to his class, regardless of that he was definitely a new student because no one knew who he was. The teacher introduced himself to the new student as Mr. Shriden, then the teacher looked at the students schedule and made him introduce himself to the rest of the class, even though the student looked rather reluctant.

“Guten Tag,” he said in a rather rough voice that made it sound like he had been shouting all day. This was, of course, German, so many of the students looked at him strangely, although some of the students who had taken German nodded at him, even if they didn’t really listen that much in the class they still understood the basics, Good day, the student had said to them. Some of the girls, that weren’t even paying attention to what the guy was saying, stared at him dreamily, but he was quite a good looking fellow to them, although the clothes he wore looked more like rags that hung from his, it fit his style and face.

“We don’t speak German here,” Mr. Shriden said to him shaking his head.

“I know you don’t,” he said looking over at the teacher. “But she does,” he said motioning over towards a girl that everyone ignored, a girl called Rachel Zamore. Rachel was the shy quiet girl that was usually found alone reading in the library, her shy personality that made her alone in the high school where everyone who didn’t have a group of friends didn’t really have a name in high school at all, with her long brown hair and silver grey eyes she was really pretty when you got to look at her up close, but no one ever did.

Rachel looked up at the new student with shock, she couldn’t really see his eyes, his hair covered his eyes and most of his nose, but she could tell that his eyes were smiling because the sides of his mouth were upturned slightly.

“Hallo,” Rachel said shakily. She looked up to his face, she could faintly see clear blue crystal eyes through his black hair, he was looking right at her, she noticed the board on his back and wondered what it was for, skate boards weren’t that big.

“Ihre Augen sind sehr hübsch,” he said with a smile. It was odd for him to be talking to Rachel, the rest of the class looked on quizzically, he was still standing in the front of the room, but he was talking to a nobody, although Rachel was a nobody, a lot of other girls were wishing that they were her right now. Rachel looked at the guy shocked, she had had one good friend over the course of high school, but she had to move to a different state, and now this German guy came along and told her that her eyes were pretty, that’s exactly what her friend used to tell her.

“Danke,” Rachel shakily said her thanks to him. He smiled brightly at her and nodded his head lightly.

“Class this is Quinn, even if he doesn’t want to speak English,” the teacher said grumpily moving back to his desk. “Quinn just grab some clay and sit down wherever there is a free stool,” he said motioning towards a garbage can full of clay.

“Kay,” Quinn said putting his back pack and long board down on the table by an empty stool next to Rachel. He went over and grabbed a huge chunk of clay before walking back over to Rachel’s table and sitting down with a huge chunk of clay, most everyone went back to work on their own sculptures, save for a few girls who looked enviously at Rachel’s table, maybe they should have chosen to sit there instead. Quinn didn’t look at Rachel again as he started working on his lump, smoothing it, molding it, and shaping it into something that most people who laugh at when someone asked them if they could sculpt it.

When the bell rang Rachel looked up from her own sculpture to an angel wrapped in a thin cloth, she looked serene and her hand reached out into the air as if reaching out for something that no one could see. Rachel looked up at Quinn and at the teacher as well, Mr. Shriden was looking at the sculpture along with a bunch of other students as well, Quinn growled slightly and Rachel looked up at him quickly.

“Its beautiful,” she said softly to him, she wondered how the sculpture stayed balanced through all this stuff going on.

Mr. Shriden was thinking of something similar to that, so were a lot of other students.

“It sucks,” Quinn said grabbing his back pack and board and leaving the room, Rachel looked after him sadly, this was bad? Why was this bad? It was beautiful, the German student seemed different, very different.
