“A nation of sheep, will beget a government of wolves”
-Edward R. Murrow
Unknown
Nestled in a place, foreboding and cold, lingers an air of morbid emptiness. It is the type of emptiness, which no mortal man can withstand at the behest of his own sanity. This place of desolation lies deep under the earth, in a facility unseen by clouded minds, and those with tainted eyes. Tucked securely underground was place destined for secrecy and the conforming of tyrants; it was a room. The room was approximately fifty square meters in size. Its spaciousness being shrouded in a veil of impregnable darkness, all empty save for a round ten meter table in its center. The only discernible source of light came from this very table, thus adding to the depths of darkness around it. The table glowed with a strange azure ambiance; thus the eerie luminescence gave the room a prospect of infinite darkness. The light itself was comprised of three dimensional, vertical and horizontal lines. As well as other luminous shapes, they seemed to depict a detailed model of some kind. However, upon closer inspection, it was evident that these luminescent lines were in fact a meticulous representation of a city. The ambient model in proportion to the strange table it came from depicted that this particular city was massive. Every minute detail of this particular metropolis was represented in an array of laser like lines. These details ranged from life-like luminous images, of moving traffic to holographic citizens walking down its sidewalks.
Despite the chilling accuracy of this holographic model, it was pertinent to know that the strangest of events had yet to occur. As if staged by a dramatic queue, the center of the room lit up, like it had awakened from a long slumber. The impenetrable darkness had remained, yet the arrival of five beams of radiance had convened. These beams of light were scattered evenly around the table, and appeared to have no source; or rather they ominously existed in darkness of their own accord. What was more, each beam of radiance was unique, for they all varied in color and tone. These phantom-like beams of light rippled powerfully around the holographic city, giving off the disconcerting aura, of authoritative all-knowing watchers. Suddenly the scene began to darken, as certain events came to be. The rays of darkly colored luminescence, rippled violently. Distortions much like the fervent bouncing of atomic particles manifested, the following was a sudden assimilation, of trillions of light particles. This mesmerizing phenomenon took place, in all of the beams of light. Though like their colors, their tumultuous dances of conjoining atoms were all different.
A beam of light that glowed neon violet, and rose petal pink swirled dreamily in its assimilation. There was also a crimson and orange radiance; its particles twitched and jittered wildly, as if searching for places to conjoin. The beam of light next to that one was azure and pastel green in glow; it in itself materialized in an orderly fashion. As for the last two, the second to last ray which was neon green in hue was a swirling maelstrom of chaos. On the other hand, the very last light, which had a golden radiance, was the only one to appear incrementally. As its particles came together, it seemed as if a specter had finally decided to reveal itself. The form within this light became clearer with every passing moment. Its physical structure becoming that of a man; he was clad in a full body latex suit. His sleek shiny garb was golden, like the light from whence he came. An argent metal covered his chest and his lower area, seeming to serve as a form of armor. However, the eerie thing about him was undoubtedly in his countenance, and the brooch that rested just below his collar; which allowed a gold and silver cape to hang from his shoulders. His face was covered by a mask that was oval shaped and smooth, with a surface that glinted like impeccably cleaned glass. A pale yellow phosphorescent glow emitted from this mask, in contrast with a silver symbol in its center. The golden masculine figure appeared faceless, save for tresses of blonde and silver tipped hair that hung down to his shoulders. The only face upon him was the brooch connected to his cape; it was a silver pendant in the shape of a small mask; this pendant portrayed pain and anguish. Revealing a visage filled with terror and agony, the brooch seemed oddly animated by the very spirit of suffering.
With the full arrival of the man in gold, the other four beams of light had fully taken shape, they all wore similar clothing. Adorned with masks and the same full body suits, their variances seemed to lie in certain colors that apparently embodied them. The remaining beings were all female in appearance, even their statures and builds varied. This in turn, gave the only male a supposed position of dominance. This was confirmed when he was the first to speak. His masked head shifted, to gaze down at the holographic city before them. Meanwhile the others stared forward attentively as he spoke, his voice thundered in deep monotonous absolution.
“I Omega approve assembly for this inquisition. Enigma Beta’s inquiry has been sanctioned, after her report I will take project updates as well as further questions.” The man with the mask tilted his head, towards a slender woman adorned in azure and pastel green colors. Omega nodded slightly in the female’s direction, giving her permission to speak” You may commence inquiry.”
There hung an air of seriousness, in the darkness around these glowing figures. The woman with the azure mask known as Enigma Beta, remained silent for quite some time. Before she shifted ever so slightly, giving sway to her hair; which was knee length and quad colored. From her collar up, her hair was night black with azure highlights. Whereas from her collar down her tresses, were umber brown with pastel green tips. She wore a cape brooch, which had visage of smugness upon it. Her azure and pastel green phosphorescent mask pulsed, as dark green symbols began to stream across its surface. After mere moments, the characters ceased flowing along the surface of her mask. Then almost autonomously her head turned to look at the male figure in gold; she seemed to move methodically executing her actions with precision and thought. Her disposition seemed that of a higher intelligence, as she spoke her voice was smooth and defined.
“It would be my pleasure, please direct your attentions to the Holo-Grid.” Beta commanded rather than asked, every word that she spoke was pronounced with aptness. Her head shifted towards the holographic table, thus so did the other Enigma’s. The green symbols from before, returned scrolling along the surface of Beta’s mask; and then as if in response to this the holographic city (Holo-Grid) reacted. Three red ambient dots appeared in certain areas of the grid, each was accompanied by a strange text that hovered above them. “I have concerns about these zones.” She stated simply before, lifting her right hand which exposed her fingers from her knuckles up. They were of pale flesh, which confirmed that she was probably human; on the contrary and a more intimate note her nails were polished azure, matching wonderfully with her caped figure. Without any wasted actions, she waved her hand; causing the Holo-Grid to spin at a complete 180 degree angle. Placing her index finger and thumb together, she pulled them apart. This caused the holographic model to respond in such a way, that the areas with red dots were magnified. Large holographic images hovered above the city, showing in depth images of particular areas. The other members seemed to watch silently, as light from the hologram refracted off of their glowing masks. Their heads didn’t turn from the displayed images as Beta continued to report her concerns.
“These are areas that have displayed unstable quantum-ionic anomalies; it is relevant that we investigate these phenomena…” Directing her right hand to one of the windows, Beta used both hands to replace the Holo-Grid with a full scale hologram of an alley way. “This is the resulting effect of suspected Thermionic discharges.” Staring at the alley, the remaining Enigma turned to one another. Stoic behind their masks it was evident that what they saw was intriguing even to them, as an entire section of the alley seemed to be missing. There were ideally the walls of two buildings, close in proximity to one another. However, there were chunks missing out of both walls; and even the ground between them. From the circular shapes, and angles of these missing swaths, it appeared that the disruption was somehow spherical in nature. Enigma Beta, sifted between the next two images. One image showed a large edifice, currently under construction by a group of autonomous builder drones. The drones were smoking haphazardly, atop an unfinished floor. Above these robots were thick ionized titanium support coils, used to reinforce the integrity of the floors below them; a third of these coils and a small section of the unfinished floor had a large circular chunk gone missing it. The very last image was one of a bridge leading into a city; the bridge was strange. It floated meters above the surface of a wide river using advanced Anti-Gravity technology, and was also constructed with a processed metal, that was nearly indestructible. There was a gaping hole in the very center of this bridge; additionally, no support coils or other objects could be seen protruding from the missing sections. This entailed that whatever had done such damage, was able to do so with microscopic-precision.
“As you can see, these irregularities appear to be micro singularities…” Enigma Beta implied, just as her comment had been made; she was verbally cut off by a shapely auburn haired woman. This female wore a crimson mask, and sported coiling crimson tipped tresses that spiraled down to the small of her back. Her cape’s brooch was a visage of rage, which matched her persona whilst she snarled in a husky and extremely violent voice.
“I bet it’s a new weapon manufactured by the resistance! We should have initiated the Leviathan ACT to erase the infidels, not use Protocol Tyrannous! What good is a purge of the shepherds if you do not slaughter the sheep!” the woman’s mask burned blood red, clearly glowing in accordance with her emotions. Despite the explosive interruption of the crimson clad woman, Enigma Beta entertained her outburst with an observation that she had made.
“Volatile emotional impulses gain you no leverage here, Enigma Gamma. I doubt that the resistance is capable of such destruction; they do not possess the funds or resources necessary to supply advanced technological research. Additionally Protocol Tyrannous seemed an efficient political tactic, by terminating resistance leaders we reduce the oppositions morale. Furthering my observation, leaving lower ranked members of the resistance alive, allows us to add directed subjectivity to Enigma Alphas propaganda campaign.” Enigma Gamma seemed to shrug off the other Enigma’s logic; meanwhile, a different member entered her own input. Enigma Omega simply listened to them as they brought their speculations and theories to the table; the next to speak was a tall voluptuous woman. Her garb was violet with a rose petal tone; her phosphorescent magenta mask pulsed dreamily. Her cape’s brooch contained the countenance of a person dreaming in their sleep. She was a brunette who displayed, puffy pig tails stained with merging hues of pink and violet at their tips. Her voice was soft and to a fault wistfully alluring. This one had the voice of a succubus on the prowl; conjuring a deceptively jubilant giggle, she cooed wantonly.
“Now, now, you should take heed to Gamma’s concerns, Enigma Beta. She makes a valid point.” Her head tilted assuredly towards the crimson suited enigma. “Even after the purge of the Valkyria resistance officers, we never recovered Enigma-X. She is a traitor and the former head of our military forces; she even has knowledge of the Percepta-Scape. She can single handedly exploit our outfit’s weaknesses, if she were able to make contact with Isrion‘s Military forces. Surely you have calculated this Enigma Beta, the possibility of a global revolt; Lead by Machina schwarzen`stern aka Enigma-X, she is a plague upon this organization.”
“As members of the elite, you two are illogical.” Enigma Beta replied speaking solely to Enigma’s Gamma and Alpha, her voice displayed no emotion though she did feel genuine concern. With a swipe of her hand, she returned the Holo-Grid to its original holographic image. “I am the Supreme General of the Surveillance and Intelligence Bureau, (S.I.B.) I am completely aware of the threat that Machina schwarzen’stern poses to the cause. However our issue has nothing to do with politics, this is a problem closer to home than you might grasp.” Enigma Beta turned her masked face to a petite woman, garnished in an ensemble of neon green proportions. Her hair was flaxen meshed with titillating green highlights; her neon green mask pulsed and flickered like a light about to blow. The thing was taking about her, was not her small stature but rather; the brooch that she wore. Her pendant had no face; it was empty seeming devoid of meaning or symbolism. She turned her mask in kind to face Enigma Beta, uttering a response to a question that had not yet been asked. Her voice was small, docile and meek; yet it reverberated powerfully throughout the dark room.
“You are not implying that this has anything to do with Project VERITAS are you? If so I will not allow you to blame my research for these anomalies… My study of Quantum manipulation has the potential for unprecedented applications in teleportation and time travel research.” Enigma Beta seemed to stare at the other woman in silence, before expressing her own opinion. Her words were not held back as she replied.
“Despite the future applications of your research Enigma Epsilon, I suspect that you are manipulating the fundamental threads of existence. I know why you truly want to pursue the field of Quantum manipulation, ever since that anomaly five years ago. You’ve become obsessed with discovering alternate universes…
