• Running down the straightaway,

    Catching my breath,

Realizing my time…they had come for me.

    My head throbs with pain.

I realize I cannot survive as long as I live.

    “Forgive me!” I yell.

    Time shifts upward.

The sky turns into darkness, pitch darkness.

    Death.

    I must find a way.

I hear their wings battering furiously overhead.

    Furious.

They call my name like a curse.

They sing a song of my calling.

But I run, as long as I live.

I realize I cannot hold on.

My ribs are strung with pain.

My heart is beating with threatening intensity.

    “Come little one.”

    “Come little one.”

    “Come little one.”

    “Your time has come.”

    Furious.

    Running down the straightaway,

    Catching my breath,

    Realizing…

    Realizing…

The sky captures me like a prisoner.

“Come little one. Your time has come.”
