The long forgotten lore of my life
When I feel like it I'll update with my thoughts, views, nonsensical ramblings or events. Just another look into my chaotic enough life. I never know what's going to happen.
'Are lightsabers real?' -events of past few days
Friday through Monday, December 24:

Happy Christmas Eve to everyone! It's that time of year again, and the counting down has just begun. I bet the little kids are hyped up, excited a certain overly plump guy is going to tear his way down the skinny chimney tonight. Or... wait, does anyone actually HAVE working chimneys anymore?!

Whatever. Anyway, so Friday was our Christmas edition of Teen Night! Quite spectacular in the fact that a ton of people who normally don't come anymore decided to show up, lending us the much needed right to glomp them for old times sakes. When you leave high school, you don't really realize how much you're going to miss your friends until it begins to dawn on you that the real life is harsher than we braced ourselves for.

I gave everyone their cards and gifts. Since, this year, I was able to obtain a working job with a paycheck, I was able to spend a little bit more this year as apologizes to all those cruddy past year gifts (and I know it's true!! Don't deny it- they sucked). Among what I got was a Jack Sparrow pirate hat (which mom loved), a chocolate Santa (that's currently missing a head along with 40% of his body- yum), and a beautiful wolf calender. I thought the wolves were photographed- uh uh. They're PAINTED. God, details are perfect.

Plus, mom can finally have a calender to herself. I've been having to bum off of hers, writing down my stuff, crowded HER stuff.

Yesterday, my sister (and her family; Walter, Kalan, husband Mike, Angela and her child Layden) came over with Aunt Doris and Kurt to celebrate their part of Christmas over her. Rather raucous, but you know, most get togethers are. It was wonderful to see everyone. Not only that, but it was the first Christmas in two years that Brian was able to come over and leave his post in the air force to actually celebrate the season holidays at home!

Kalan got me two Invader Zim shirts. Holy cow, I can't believe he remembered that I dug that show!! I don't know where the heck he found Invader Zim shirts where he lives, but he's a master at gift giving already.

Typical get together events with the kids and I. We had a blast playing my Guitar Hero (version 1- yeah, I know, it's outdated. They're, what, up to number 3 on those versions?!). We even got a little cheeky and looked up Dane Cook clips and subliminal messages in Disney movies and such. God, I haven't laughed that much in ages! It felt good to be around them.

Now, why the awkward title to this entry? Well, we were watching a video two "amateur" video makers had posted. I have that in quotations because, clearly, this guys excelled at what they did- and it was a lightsaber battle! You know, one of those geek-fest videos that people make fun of but end up watching, enraptured with the action and such. It's like the Star Wars movies: you don't want to admit they're your favorite movies these days, but if they're on, lord, you stop whatever you do to watch every second of it!

What blew our minds away is what Angela asked. She's 21, and she looks at us, with a serious face, and asks, "Hey... are lightsabers real?"

The three boys and I look at each other, on the verge of disbelief.

She actually, after explaining herself, thought the lightsabers were real all this time, and the the blade wasn't made from computer CGI but in fact a real part of the blade.

....No comment.

In other news, this is great for all you Tim Burton fans! Looks like it's confirmed- he's doing an ALICE IN WONDERLAND movie next, slated for 2010 as it's release date. That, and he's doing a remake of Frankenweenie (2009). I saw that as a child and loved it; mom was freaked out about the whole, "this dog is dead but alive", thing.

Tonight, after I close for the night up at my store, I'll come home to my real family's Christmas bash. Mom, dad and I will (most likely) have our Christmas then. It's always a tradition to do it on the eve instead of the day of.

heart Peace out, ya'll! heart
And god sped the New Year.
Let peace ring in each and everyone's hearts.
Do unto those as you'd do for you,
and lend out a helping hand this season.
Give a hug, a kiss, a friendly handshake,
and embrace the forgotten art of kindness and love.
