Leonard McCoy

‘Dear God…don’t give him a challenge…’ McCoy thought inwardly at the woman’s request. He would have passed on the message but at the moment, the good doctor didn’t want to deal with the banter that would happen between her and the Captain. If luck served him right, Jim could have heard those lovely words echoing in his mind. Bones seemed relieved though that his friend hadn’t seemed to have heard, otherwise he’d have bolt right up and responded with a witty remark and charming grin to try and win her over.

It wouldn’t be the first time. “Jim…” he called out again with a lighter tap to the younger male’s face. Leonard grinned at the growl of a response given to him. “Well, a few things…nothing to worry about.” McCoy responded, taking a step back, but ultimately felt the ‘stumble’ into him.

Bones snorted lightly, “Then again, you might want to start worrying about it…considering your late night activities.” He assumed everyone knew what went on in the Captain’s quarters. There was no such thing as a private life aboard the Enterprise. Everyone knew in a matter of hours or minutes. It depended on the information. Even now, grown men and women still acted like new cadets on their first day. Sedation had failed in the past, or at least on Kirk. He seemed to have built a small immunity to some of the sedations, thus McCoy had to make guess work.

“Could have, but where is the fun in that, Jim?” He watched the Captain leave and shook his head. Ruffling his hair, he turned towards the nearest nurse, “You’re in charge right now..only wake me up in an emergency…and just because the Captain says his head hurts..it means nothing. He’s just looking for attention…” Settling his medical scanner in the hands of the nurse, McCoy headed towards the door and off to his dorm. At least, he hoped to make it that far before someone came waltzing in, crying about how much pain they were in.

He wasn’t in the mood, but couldn’t turn someone away with a cold shoulder.

The doors opened, revealing a rather sickly appealing female. She looked and sounded as bad as he was tired. “Nurse Chapel, deal with her…easy fix..Oh.” he turned around, settling a hand on the scholar’s shoulder, “Set up sector two for a Vulcan…I’ll be damned if he lectures me again about my medical examination…I’ll deal with Spock after I rest…” he smiled wearily, and gave a nod, “Just go to the nurse up there…she’ll get you settled.”

Leonard left after that, not wanting to be dragged back in. The trek to his quarters was a little less stressful. His mind wasn’t on Jim’s medical check out, and neither was a certain vulcans’. Entering without another thought, the doctor stripped down and crawled into bed. He’d deal with a shower later.

Right now. All he wanted was some sleep.

All I have left is my bones..
