• Prologue/Chapter 1: The Hunger

The rain was falling hard on the uncharted streets of Vilodencia. Nobody knew exactly where it was, those who were unfortunate enough to come across it never came back, those who reside on it never leave. It is not an island as far as those who live there know, and it’s believed to be someplace in Europe between Germany and France, although many different languages are spoken there. The people here you ask? They are not people at all. They are somewhere between humans and monsters. Never permitted to cross the border into France or Germany, for if they did the world would begin to collapse, many people will die, and races extinct.

The rain fell on Vince’s head, but he did not feel it. His eyes were usually an unnatural shade of green, bright and thick, but now they were a deep purple: he needed to feed, and quickly. The Vilodencian tower outside his apartment had always been there, on the street corner, but when he looked at it he didn’t recognize it, as the hunger was taking over him. He walked quickly down an alley and a hooker bumped in to him. “You look pretty (effed) up. I think I know what you need…” She said with a smile. Vince looked around for witnesses and there was no one in sight. He grabbed the hooker by the neck and threw her against the wall hard, leaving a dent in the brick wall of the building next to them, and nearly breaking the hooker’s spine. “Oh..w…hat the hell are you…?” Vince hissed and bore his fangs. “A monster...but not one such as you…” He said, his voice was a scratchy one, as if he was a smoker, and it was abnormally deep for a sixteen year old. “Bite me.” Said the hooker. “Oh, I intend to!” Vince sunk his fangs deep into her neck, tightened his jaw, and drank the warm dark crimson liquid that poured from her wound. He drained her nearly dry, and when he backed away and wiped his face, his eyes became the unnatural green that they usually were, his senses keened again, and his mind was clear. He swept his long black hair to the side slightly to get it out of his eyes. As he was walking down out of the alley he heard a voice. “Vampires….are disGUSTING!” He turned around to face the speaker. “Hmm…really? We drink the blood, clean up after the mess, and we don’t leave our victims in pieces. We only drain their veins, we don’t eat their organs. And by the way, we have a lot less hair, Elexilia.” Vince said, motioning towards his crotch. Hepried at what made her angry. He knew anger powered werewolves, but he was much older and much stronger than her. She growled loudly and leaped at him, her mouth growing a bit longer, her teeth sharpening, her hands and feet furry and clawed, and a tail poked out of her pants. Vince smiled, he pushed his hand out and caught her face, then grabbed it and threw her into the wall. “Elexi, you know how much weaker you are than me. You know what will happen if you attack me. Why do you do so?” She growled again and dashed at him. She swung her clawed hand at him, and he ducked. He pushed himself back, resting his arms on the ground, and pushed his right leg straight forward, kicking her in the chin with the heel o his boot. He rolled backwards, stood up, and dashed forwards. He caught her leg midair, and dragged her through the air for a few seconds before slamming her against a wall at the dead end of the ally. He jumped back, stood against the wall with his arms crossed, his black hair in his face covering everything but his fanged smile. “You finished?” He laughed. He walked up to her and pushed her against the wall as she changed back into her humanly shape. “You really are gorgeous when you’re not a hairy mess. Try shaving.” He said with a laughing smile. “(Eff) off.” Elexilia said. “Oh, that’s not very nice. Respect your elders.” He said again with a smile. “Vince…” She said leaning into him suddenly, closing her eyes pushing her face against his. She kissed him, and that was what he wanted. But he knew they could never be what he always wanted to be. Not because he was a vampire and she was a werewolf, but because he is either nothing or prey in her eyes. He kissed her for a few seconds and then turned and dashed. Vampires could run faster than many human cars, and this time, Vince did just that. Back to his apartment.
