• A bright light blinded me as soon as my body jolted with life.

Beep. Beep. Beeeeeeeeeeep. The light was gone.

    "Clear." Bang.

I gasped loudly and I attempted to open my eyes.

    Beep. Beeeeeeeeeeeep.

    Pitch blackness.

    "Clear." Bang.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. The annoying sound continued onward, and I could feel the ripe pain deep in my forehead and chest. I could tell light was surrounding me through the eyes I had squeezed shut. I gasped and opened them, and I heard a few relieved mumbles. But something was seriously wrong; I couldn't see a thing.

"He made it." A loud voice boomed in my ear. I winced, but the movement hurt so bad I whimpered loudly. I could feel my body being lifted onto something, a hard bed that rolled quickly to some place I couldn't see.

"No, no." I wailed, clinging to the edges of the bed, rocking back and forth despite the immense pain that was making tears well up in my eyes.

"Someone tie him down." I heard the same loud voice again. Restraints quickly were bound to my wrists and I was held down by the rough leather.

"No!" I screamed, thrashing around. The pain in my chest grew, spread like wildfire through my whole body. But I continued; I could not be restrained like this.

"Better hold him still, the blood is coming faster."

Blood? I froze, breathing hard. I could feel the hot tears roll down past my ears to dampen my hair.

"It's alright, just calm down. We're taking you to the nearest hospital. You crashed pretty bad, Hun." A gentle voice cooed in my ear. I trembled against the cuffs, and I looked around wildly, trying to see where the voice was coming from.

"Where are you? I can't see you!" I exclaimed, whirling around and tugging at the bindings.

"I'm right here, Hun, don't worry." A cold hand pressed against my forehead, and I whimpered quietly.

"There was a lot of blood back there. I'm surprised you're alive. A miracle." The female voice sounded genuinely amazed, and I relaxed me a little. So many questions were swirling in my head, but I had no idea where to start.

The bed rocked and I was lifted into the air, then slammed back down somewhere. I could sense it was darker, but my sight remained useless. The voice returned, the cold hand stroked my cheek and brushed my hair back away from my face. The cramped space definately smelled like blood; the metallic scent was unmistakeable.

"We're almost to the hospital, Hun." The voice reassured me. What I had figured out to be the emergency vehicle crept to a halt, and then the sounds of rustling clothes and stomps of heavy boots surrounded the vehicle. Some light returned as I was revealed in the bright sunshine, then disappeared as I entered a cool building of some sort. I'm guessing it was the hospital.

    "Oh my, what a tragedy."

    "Is he alive?"

    "What happened?"

I heard these and many more claims as I was rushed down a long tunnel, artificial light playing on my face.

"I can't see." I once again complained to the female, but she had disappeared from my side. Instead, I was responded to by the gruff male voice.

"What do you mean you can't see?" He asked, his voice sounding concerned.

"I mean I can't see. What else is there to understand?" I said irritably, looking toward where his voice had come from. He didn't say anything else, but I could feel the cart moving quicker underneath me.

"He says he can't see." The man finally said once the cart had stopped.

"Hm." An older female hummed, then the cart suddenly lurched into motion again. A door closed somewhere; I must've been pushed into a room.

"So, it looks like he made it." The first female was back.

"Yup." The second, more mature voice agreed, and I felt some more hands prodding my forehead.

"Are the window's shut? The door, everything locked up tight?" The second asked, farther away.

"Mhmm." The first said, her voice just over my face. "I'm not going to be able to heal your blindness, Hun, but the rest of the pain will go away very quickly." I realized my side was still throbbing, my forehead hurting like something was burried in my brain and refused to be move.

"Heal?" I inquired, turning my head for her voice.

I was interrupted by a faint hum, then the same bright light returned. The bright, blinding light that had brought me back to life. Suddenly, a rather human shape appeared in my vision, surrounded by the brightest light of all.

"Wha--?" I asked, my voice already sounding better. The creature was leaning over my body, touching parts of me one at a time. Each time our skins met, a ripple appeared in the light which had filled every crack of my vision, and I watched in curiosity. Every touch brought a piece of my body into my view, so I could watch the blood quickly disappear, the gaping hole in my side suddenly repair itself, and the heart in my body start beating faster as it worked to heal all the pieces.

Soon the light faded, the figure disappeared. Even the buzzing phosphorescent lights above me seemed like the dimmest light available.

"What was that?" I asked in bewilderment. Cool fingers quickly worked at the bindings on my hands and feet, and soon I was free. I sat up and felt around my face. There was blood caked on my forehead, but there was no sign of a break.

"I healed you, like I said I was going to." The first said in a voice that made it sound it should be obvious. I felt around my body, carefully prodding each point the creature had touched.

"That was you? You were so... bright?" I said, trying to find the right word to explain it.

"Well at least you could see me then." The first said flippantly and strutted away, heels clacking on the tile ground.

"No, wait!" I said, throwing my feet off the side of the cart. I jumped off and wobbled a bit when I reached the floor, but the footsteps returned.

"I'm not going anywhere. You'd be pretty conspicuous with all this blood everywhere, and I got a rag to clean you up." The woman started humming as she gently dabbed at my face and arms, clearing the goop away.

"But how did you do that? How could I see you? And why were you so shiny?" I asked, the questions tumbling out of my mouth.

"This probably isn't the best place to talk about that, Munchkin. I'll tell you later." She sounded nervous, and her fingers flitted around with the washcloth, cleaning up the blood.
