• The Secret
I sit here looking and listening waiting for the Earth to tell me her beautiful secret. As the crickets play their violins in the grass, I hear the earth speak. She does not speak aloud, but silently through the wind. She pushes the vibrant green finger of the palm trees with her voice upward towards the heavens. I sit and stare quietly waiting for her to revel her unclaimed secret.
A vast collection of cotton balls sit calmly in the blue sky. Seeing them makes me think of when my father would take me to an open grass field; we would lie down in the soft grass, watching the picture show the clouds would perform. Eventually they would pass, and as the sun was going into hibernation, we would leave.
As I allowed my thoughts drift, her voice passes through the trees causing them roar, regaining my attention, I look up realizing that I missed the secret she was trying to tell me. I frown, then she ran her invisible hand through my brown course hair, caressing my cheek the way a mother touches her child. I smile realizing that I have been forgiven for being absent minded.
I listen with my eyes; to her unheard whispers, I feel her cool breath on the napes on my neck. She swirls around my entire being, as if she was hugging me for the very first time. Then a revelation hits me and I know what the secret is. I know what she has been trying to tell for the past hour. I close my eyes an everything becomes clear.
She is my mother, she has watched over me since the day I was born. She has provided for me this whole time. When I was hot, she placed the cloud over the sun so I could have shade. When I am, hungry she makes the seed inside of her grow. When I am tired, she tells the sun to go down so that I can rest. She has loved me since I was first conceived, and will care for me until I die. When I die, she will mourn as any mother does when they have lost a child. Her tears will water the ground to bring forth a new seeds that she will take care of and the cycle will repeat resume once again. That is her secret, she loves me more than I can ever comprehend and she will continue to love me for as long as she lives, because she is simply the mother of all things.
