• I nervously glanced over my shoulder at Edmund. He sat, blue-gray eyes glazed over with daydreams as they lost themselves out the window of the bus. "He likes me? No, He doesn't. Does he?," I thought with a wince.
Belinda Foremann, my best friend, poked me in the shoulder. "Hey! Melly, you've gone at him again!" I jolted out of my trance. "Huh?" Belinda rolled her eyes, her short blond hair bobbing as we went over a bump. "C'mon, Mellissa. Get over him! He's all over Yvonne, right?" She gave my shoulder a pat. "Belinda, c'mon! He's the hottest boy at Lions Park High!" I paused as we went over another bump, and Belinda supressed a laugh. "Riiight, Melly. There are hundreds of guys out there, so find another one!" I began to retort, but then remembered something and grinned smugly. "Like Tony Le'Bravoure?" She went beet red, her green eyes furious and excited. "You read my journal, you little-," She hissed angrily, and I laughed as she started flailing her hands in a pretend catfight.

But then the bus jolted, and shards of glass flew from the other side. I looked out the window, and saw the ground getting closer to it. Then everything seemed to go in slow-motion as we did a barrel roll down Gregor Hill. We were all screaming, a tumbling, blurry mass of kids. Belinda grabbed my hand and pulled me under a seat before we took off on the wacky roller-coaster gone wrong.

    To be continued...
