• I fell to the sand with a thump. Death was peaceful and the pain faded away. I felt myself slip. The last thing I saw was a flashback of Emma, my mom, my dad, my aunt, my uncle, and Damon…

I had chased her all the way to the spot were she had tested me to let her fall. Now she let go. I saw her fall before my own eyes. For the first time my eyes watered and I deiced I loved her. I ran down the ramp, I was faster now. She had already fallen to the sand. Her eyes shut. I picked her up and held her in my arms. I cried, that was something I didn’t do. I screamed out, “HELP! SOMEBODY! CALL 911!! HELP!” I sobbed out a whisper, “please.” A few minutes later a mean came running towards me. Two women trailed after him. He looked at me and Jayne he stopped and turned towards the women and called something out in Russian. A woman took out a cell phone and called someone. She handed the phone to the other woman. She snatched the phone and said in a heavy accent, “A…yes something has happened down at Rocky Beach, please send an ambulance… Quickly.” She walked off and continued talking. The man and other woman came towards me. The woman bent down and looked at Jayne. The man spoke in a heavy accent, “What happened?”
I looked up and said, “She… let… go… of… the railing.” He didn’t proceed any further. I kissed her forehead and begged quietly, “Stay in there…please I need you.” She made a croak and twitched a finger. Right then an ambulance parked above the beach and paramedics ran down towards us. They carried a stretcher and laid her on it. They hurried towards the car I kept up with them, my eyes always on Jayne. We climbed into the ambulance. They worked on her, and we arrived at the hospital twenty minutes later. They kept me out of the her room as they observed her. I paced in the waiting room and I kept re-living it. After five minutes I went to the payphone and called Emma. Her phone rang twice and a distracted voice answered, “Hmm?”
“Emma, its Damon. Are you okay?”
“Yes. Yes. I’m fine. I’m in the study, and oh my gosh its so awesome! I found-”
    “Emma.”
    “a book of-”
    “Emma.”
    “his studies.”
    “EMMA!”
    “What?!”
    “Come to the hospital-”
“WHAT?! What happened?! Is Jayne okay?!?”
“She..” I choked back a cry and finished quickly. “ She let go of the rail at the beach. She couldn’t take it.”
I heard Emma start to cry, “She thought she could live, because… of her father saying she had the immortal gene.”
    “Yeah, just get down here.”
She had already hung up the phone. I figured she would call everyone. I waited tensely. A few minutes later the doctor came out. He headed towards me. He took my hand and I took his. He started in, “Your Jayne’s boyfriend?”
“Yes, her family isn’t here yet.”
“Okay, please follow me.” I nodded and followed him to a doctor’s office. He put his arm out and gestured me forward. I opened the door and he left. A man was standing at the end of his desk. He smiled and gestured me forward. I came forward and sat in a black leather car. He walked and shut the door, he walked back and sat down in a chair. Once e was settled he said, “ Im the doctor who is immortal. Jayne will live.” I started to stand, “Sit.” I sat back down. “She is going to sarcoma in a couple days….she is well immortal. Any questions?”
“Not about her, about me. I tried to drown myself, but I was still alive… shouldn’t I have been in a ‘coma’.”
“Well only some go into commas.”
“Okay, now is Jayne going to be okay?”
“Yes, she is going to be-”
All I heard was the yes and I had gotten up and walked away. I went to the front desk. A woman looking in her forties was sitting at the computer, “Excuse, What room is Jayne Gerdice in?”
She looked up and retorted, “Ah yes hold on please.” She got up and walked to the shelves behind her and pulled out a clipboard. She came back over to me and smiled. I smiled back she put on her reading glasses and said, “Okay, she is in room 123. You’re going to go straight and turn right when you see the soda machine. Then you’re going to turn left and continue straight.” I hit the desk and started off and yelled back, “Thank you!”
I followed her directions and got to her room. I peered through the window and quietly opened the door. I went to her side and grabbed a chair. I sat down and watched her...
