Kroger Loves ******** Employees
-slap- not in that way, you pervert!

Before I get started, it has come to my attention that a ton of people read my journal INCOGNITO.

That said, please leave a comment so I feel loved, and so I have a better estimate of who is reading my journal. It's for my own reference, will not affect how I word my journal or who/what I talk about, and you don't even have to comment on this certain entry; just say "I'm here" or something. Thanks. XP

Kroger is a grocery store. It is the grocery store I work at. I am a cashier there. H8.

Actually, being a cashier isn't half bad. It's mundane, which is one of the things I asked for in a job, and it pays higher than minimum wage. It's the same thing every day, and the only thing I really complain about is how I don't get to sit.

You never realise how much you love something until you don't have it anymore. Especially when it comes to sitting. ;_;

But back to ******** over their employees.

On the first day of work, I never got my computer-based training. Yes, it was only a "common sense flash animation" as my co-workers put it, but it's mandatory for the law and I ever get fired for "no reason"(which you're allowed to do in Georgia), I can sue them because I wasn't trained properly. Good going there, Kroger.

I went straight to work as a cashier. I trained for two days with Patty, who was pretty nice. The only problem was, she never told me how to ask for help. I have this nifty little phone at my register, right? Yeah, I have no idea how that works. I think some people told me like ONE time in a quick passing about some numbers I could dial, but never really said what they do. It was only AFTER I called 50 three times and asked a manager why no one was picking up did I figure out it was AN INTERCOM. Gee, you think it'd be nice to know that.

I didn't get my badge number(the thing you use to clock in with) until my third day of work. They were supposed to give it to me BEFORE I STARTED. Har. I am saving all the hours I worked and will cross-reference them with my paycheck. Dumbasses. I am going to be the worst thorn in your side anyone has EVER BEEN.
And then when you fire me for being so uptight, I will SUE YOU FOR NOT TRAINING ME PROPERLY.
HA!

I got my schedule on the back of a random reciept. They told me I was working by myself on Sunday, but when I got there on wednesday, they ushered me into my own register. I hate you, Kroger.
Yes, I was ready, but I really hate it when one manager says something and another one says something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

On Wednesday, I had to ask for my break. It was my first 8 hour day, it was my first day by myself, and I was starving five hours in. I never got the mandatory 10 minute breaks for every three hours Georgia law requires(on ANY day I've worked) and after asking for my break for lunch did they CONSIDER giving it.

See, at Kroger, you have to wait until a Manager walks around saying "Have you had your break yet?" until you get your break. You know when they love doing that? 30 minutes before you get off work.

Okay, if I'm taking my 30 minute break 30 minutes before I get off work, I'm not going to stay at work to take it, dumbass. I'm going to leave early. BUT I CAN'T DO THAT, because if I leave early, I clock out, and then the two ten minute PAID breaks I'm SUPPOSED to get aren't given to me, and if I say I clock out at a time later than I actually left then I'm working the system and thus get FIRED.
Again, I hate you Kroger.

Saturday was an interesting day. I worked for seven hours thirty minutes, and around the 5 hour mark, someone says I need to tak my break after the last customer(I had three in line at the time). So I put my light out, do the next register please sign at the end of my aisle, and keep checking out these people I've racked up.
Then about 20 minutes later, when I'm on the LAST PERSON, and hungirly awaited my ONE BREAK, another manager comes over and scolds me for having my light out. What the hell do I have my light out for? It's rush hour! "But my break.."
"IT'S RUSH HOUR!"

Three more people get in line, and I do them to the last person, of course, right between the last person and a surge of three more people does the ifrst manager come over and scold me for not taking my break yet.
MAKE UP YOUR ******** MIND.

Then the second manager comes over, at this point I have my light off again, and says I need to have the light ON, the first manager butts in and says they're caught up and I need to take my break. They argue for like a minute and FINALLY I am allowed to take my break.

Thirty minutes before I get off work, the third manager(out of five, total) comes around and asks if I've had my break yet. That's like my sign to watch the clock because the torture is ALMOST OVER.

Yesterday was also the day I asked about employee discounts. See, when I actually read the manual they handed me, it said I got an employee discount. Upon asking a fellow co-worker how the discount worked, she said I needed to REQUEST ONE.

And I don't mean go up to a cashier and saying "can I get my discount on this" request, I'm talking about going to customer service, formally requesting, being issued a Kroger Card that isn't activitated until two weeks later, going over to customer service again and asking for the employee discount again, and waiting another two weeks so they can activate my employee discount on my new Kroger card requesting.

Yeah, if that's not ******** over your employees, I don't know what is.

Rewind back to my first day at work, I asked how long probation was and nobody even understood what the word "probation" meant. No one showed me how to clock in until my third day of work, and nobody told me where to find where the schedules were posted until my 5th day of work, which was yesterday.

Again, I am keeping track of all my hours, cross-referencing multiple times with my paycheck, and making sure you didn't screw me over ANY MORE.

Oh, by the way, I have no idea when paychecks are issued either, nor how to get one.

Did I mention no one has officially told me how long our one break is supposed to be, either?

Yeah. ******** you, Kroger.
I wouldn't even be working at all if my dad didn't badger me into applying places. Let alone to Kroger, which, ironically, has the most vague employee application ever, and accepts everyone with like a two minute interview, while at Publix, a rival grocery store, has a very intricate application with a rather rigorous interview process(which I failed, because I suck).

Not only that, but the drug test was about the only challenge there was when I got the job at Kroger. So hey, everyone!
Apply to Kroger, as long as you don't flunk the drug test, YOU'RE IN!

That sounds just like where I used to work but alittle bit better ^_^ There always like "have you taken your break yet?" and I'm like "...yes..." Or "I don't have a break"

If its anything like where I worked you get your payslip in a draw behind the chickin oven where out line manager dumps all of them every month. As for your actual money it used to be cash in hand but they stopped that now and its all bank transactions so errors can be reversed and tracked eaiser. And if they paid you late they usally add it to your next paycheck.

Unless its deducted in emergancy tax code like what happened to me then you get paid money by the tax man 1 year later win!! XD

PS: Yes I read this stuff.

Hello. I read occassionally. 3nodding

Ah, Krogers. This is why you hardly ever see the same cashier at a grocery store more than once - they get treated like crap so bad that they don't stay more than a month. It's also why the store will hire pretty much anyone, because they're constantly replacing those people who quit. It's a never-ending cycle of crap. 9_9

I suggest visiting with one of the managers on a day off or after work and letting them know the long list of things you weren't told about and that you WANT to know. If they ask why, give them the kiss-up answer of "it'll benefit the store" rather than give any kind of personal reason, because you're right - they could care less about making your life easier. =P But asking them questions like this might make you seem like a "caring" employee in their eyes, and they might keep you in mind for promotions later on. Or hopefully treat you a tiny bit less shitty, at least.

I wouldn't blame you if you quit if talking to them doesn't make any difference, though. No job is worth dealing with the stress-related health problems that you will eventually get if you have to work like this for like, a year. =/
