Leonard McCoy

He had been torn between friend and future all those years ago, and still made him wonder from time to time if it had been the right choice. And the answer was simple, quick almost in response when it accrued. McCoy wouldn’t trade that decision for anything despite the complications throughout the years. Jim had proven to be a damn good Captain, but still held those lingering flaws of womanizing.

Bones furrowed his brows at the patient in front of him. She was far too nervous for the routine check-up and he half expected her to bolt from the med bay before he finished. “Its almost over,” he said, trying to comfort the girl, but that proved useless. Swear broke out over her forehead, her breathing picking up in rhythm as he injected her. “There. Just report back in a week.”

The doctor nodded to her as he stepped away from the bed with med pad in hand. He had gone through half the crew since yesterday morning. Meaning, he hadn’t gotten sleep for a day. “Nurse..” he called out approaching the young female at the computer console. “Mark off the engineering officers, and inform the bridge I’ll be coming for them soon enough…this time, I’m hoping I can get the Captain to stay through an entire examination.”

She nodded in acknowledgement as McCoy took his leave of the medical bay. He’d return at a later time to finish up his work. For now, the doctor’s orders were to take a short resting period. On his way to his quarters, he met a few of the crewmembers, informing them of their check ups. “Don’t worry, its not that bad…” Bones snorted softly. No matter what age you seemed to be, you were never to old to be nervous and afraid of simple medical check up; and Captain James T Kirk was the hardest one to stay and finish one.

He waved his hand over the console by his quarters, opening the door. He stepped in, “Computer, lights…” With the lights on, his gaze lingered around. There wasn’t anything personal. McCoy hadn’t found the time to add any personal touches despite the long voyage at hand. Seven years, or was it longer than that? He had lost count almost.
McCoy slumped on his bed, and debated if he was going to sleep in his clothes or remove them. “…no…damnit.” If he slept now, Jim would slip out of the check up.

Sleep would be gathered at another time. Also, he had to make sure the Captain was still in excellent health and didn’t show any signs of decaying. Bones shifted back onto his feet and left. His stride quicken outside the quarters, as he wanted to get this finished.

Taking a deep breath, the doctor entered the lift, “Bridge…” he yawned slightly as he was taken to the higher levels. Once it arrived, McCoy stepped off and entered the bridge, his gaze lingered about taking note of the crewmen about. He rubbed his eyes and trying to hide the on coming yawn, “Captain…?”

All I have left is my bones..
